How about a girl name.

Ghislaine The Golden Eagle Call her GiGi for short

I'm surprised you're not holding a grudge after she lured a 15 year old employee of yours away from Mar-a-Largo.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Buffalo Bulls already use Victor E. Bull for their mascot

Originality isn't much of a concern when it comes to our nickname/mascot.

Gold N. Eagle

Gold for short.

Pays homage to that one week when Marquette was the Gold and phonetically sounds like our current nickname.

This would only be complete if the "N" stood for Niv.

Because that was a time in MUBB history that we want to memorialize.
Have some patience, FFS.

I honestly thought that was the name already.

Wasn't that the name of the mascot (just not well publicized) in the 90's and 2000's.

Too close with Nova's Will D. Cat.

Zenyatta has a lot....a lot... of ground to make up. She gets there from here she'd be a super horse......what's this.....Zenyatta hooked to the grandstand side....Zenyatta flying on the outside....this....is...un-belieeeeeevable!...looked impossible at the top of the stretch...

Iggy it is

Iggy the Eagle has a nice ring to it. It will be interesting to see how they market this. Will be fun for the kids.

Bucky is such a staple in this state and used a ton in their marketing. I don't think we will ever get near that point due to the change from Warriors and Golden Eagles is kind of blah.

I like it, but of course, I hear it first from a coworker who named LMU's mascot Iggy a number of years ago when she was their director of marketing.

I'm sorry. That must have been very challenging for you...

Coleman

Would have liked to see something more Marquette-centric.

Iggy is just very Jesuit-generic. Its not bad. There are just already 3 Loyola schools that make more sense to have a mascot named Iggy.

marqfan22

I like it!

Good job MU!

We are a Jesuit School. Makes sense to have a Jesuit theme to the mascot

I'm kind of surprised in the press release, they named the other Jesuit schools with that nickname. Sort of showing how common it is and not all that original.

They spelled Arby's wrong.

It'll only take a couple of days for them to notice and fix it.

Remember that brief period when they thought our nickname was spelled "Gold?"

T-Bone

I'm like a turtle, sometimes I get run over by a semi.

Class71

Anything with Gold reinforces a poor selection of a Golden Eagle mascot.

How about "BEAST" so the mascot can go into "BEAST MODE" when we need it from our fans and team.

A better mascot would be "BIG FOOT" or another BEAST that goes into "BEAST MODE" at critical stages in the game. We want to project extreme strength, not a bird that has been known to eat carrion meat in the winter.

St. Ignatius was Spanish. The Spanish version of Ignatius is Ignacio. Marquette is trying to diversify.

They missed a big opportunity by not giving the mascot the nickname for Ignacio

All Hail Nacho the Eagle!
