Several reporters on Twitter are saying head coaches are petitioning the NCAA to still have Selection Sunday at a minimum, then possibly look at having the tournament later if conditions are suitable.

Ain't going to happen.

But cancelling all springs sports is crazy. That could potentially be reversed.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Coaches need to coach and let others manage the rest of this.

Not with schools and conferences cancelling playing.

Coaches have bonuses in their contracts for making the tournament so of course they're petitioning.

If they go through with this, will Dukie V still spend the next couple of days whining about the teams that got snubbed? Will he tell us where the great matchups and upsets will be?

They should release a bracket.  Let people have a morsel of fun in this sea of doom.

I wonder how many, if any, coaches have a contract that gives them a bonus if they make the NCAA tournament.

Probably most.

If there was any chance of playing it at a later date they would've announced it was suspended and then cancelled it when the time approached if still needed. Ain't happening. And if it's cancelled don't hurt everyone and release a bracket that will never be played.

Texted with the last volleyball kid I coached that is still playing in the NCAA right now. He said I probably know just as much as they do, but it appears to be over. He's a senior and was having an All American level season on a team ranked 6th in the country. He seems devastated. Luckily for him, if he wants to, he'll have professional opportunities and get to keep playing. Other seniors will will not.

This absolutely sucks for the kids.

I would guess most schools would pay a tournament bonus if they were solidly in.

I believe they will have a selection even if no tournament...

Such a void in ratings

Boo frickin hoo for those poor coaches.

I'm not a pay the players guy, but have very little sympathy for college & pro coaches, pro players and owners of pro teams that have billions, but the hourly stiffs working concessions, tickets, etc are the ones that will suffer.

If they do it won't be accurate. The season wasn't completed. Maybe SLU would have won the A-10 again (giving the A10 more bids and bumping Xavier), or Jackson State would have won the SWAC. Dayton could have lost and dropped to a 2 seed. Maybe St John's would have won the BE. Any selection would have to have an asterisk next to it.

So next year all teams will have to begin a new streak of making consecutive tournaments?

TallTitan34

Yeah, I don't really care about coaches getting their bonuses.  I was just posting this as I thought still going forward with Selection Sunday is a good idea.  It at least would give a little closure to a season that ended quickly.  It doesn't really affect us much as we were a lock, but for smaller schools and bubble teams it would be nice for them to see if they got an at-large bid.

At least teams would know they were or were not a tournament team in 2020.

I think that it is only fair for the kids to be able to hear their name.  I think it is fair for the coaches as it reflects on their resume.

No, because there is no 2020 tournament.  A streak going through 2019 would still be in tact if the team makes it in 2021, but they just can't add a year for 2020 because there's no tournament to "make".

Nevertheless, I would like to see the brackets done this year, just to see it and to give the kids a chance to see what they earned for their hard work all year.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

I hope they do while fully recognizing that there is an asterisks on because of potential bid thieves. At least recognize what the players, especially the seniors, earned this season.

Norlander reporting they may still release a bracket and that there were considerations to hold a voluntary one-weekend, 16-team Tournament (sounds like that won't go forward).

It's likely I'm not for this just because we wouldn't be included, but I cringed at the 16 team tournament idea. I'd imagine team #17 would be pretty pissed. They may as well just let everyone play at that point.

Stupid.  You're down to 16 teams within 4 days.  Just play the unnatural carnal knowledgeing first round, and then go from there.  A lot easier to put 16 teams on hold than 68 teams.
