There actually might not be a basketball season next year. Not sure when this virus will actually end. We do know there is a flu season every year and basically next years flu is a mutation of this year's flu. Next year could actually be worse.

This says it ALL.

As a part time resident in Bergamo,  I can say uniquivically, most Americans have no idea what is going on.
When they closed the La Scala (23rd February) my wife came home.  The load factor on United flights to and from Milano have been 20% for weeks.

1918 flu killed my grandmother, 20 to 50 million worldwide died.  We worry about basketball and politics while the world moves on.  What's the plan?

i'm sorry to hear about grandma, but come on vogue-1918?  really?  i think we've made some medical, technological advancements since then.  let's at least stay in the same century or within 50 years or so

Thank you for your condolences, my father was 5 when his mother passed.    My father died at 90 and I'm 76, time flys.
The key number is the number of ventalators in America, 60 to 70,000.

What does medical and technological advancements mean in respect to a virus?   It means we have many more people living who are medically compromised.

So, if 20,000,000 died in 1918 and we can now keep seriously sick people alive with ventilators 70,000 we only lose 19,000,000.  A pandemic is still a pandemic., 1918, 1965, 2020, no matter.

yes, but the evolution of vaccines?  after the first one(smallpox 1796) it took until 1914-pertussis,  1926-dipthria, 1938-tetanus.  combined in 1948 to become the DPT vaccine.  so in the span of 20 years, 3 vaccines were developed.  prior to that, what did we have?  some moldy bread?  i understand your point of having a more populous globe, but technology has allowed us to make more, faster and distribute it quicker just to summarize

It is always interesting getting into a conversation with you.  You are talking about vaccines, I'm talking about ventalators.  You are talking about tetanus I'm talking about a pandemic.   You might as well talk about PET or CAT scans while I talk about time release medications.

Just to summarise, trying to talk with you makes me crazy.  Stay well, we all love you.  Goodbye.

Well, with no more games left this season I guess UConn is officially on the schedule now.

"What does medical and technological advancements mean in respect to a virus?   It means we have many more people living who are medically compromised."

with all due respect mr V, if you are going to analogize 2018 and the numbers of infected people in juxtaposition to 2020, the medical advancements and technology have to be part of the discussion.  if i am understanding what your point is, just the means to get a vaccine from point A to point B has to be part of the equation if you are to say the shear numbers of infected have gone up since early 20th century.  plus we've advanced beyond ventilators.  they are not a solution, but part of the solution

sorry if i riled you so early but if you are on the east coast, it's only a couple hours until noon  ;)

I think his point was that we are giving people longer lives in general, but we are creating more immuno compromised people as as result.  If it were 1960, both my father and my mother-in-law would be dead right now due to various illnesses they have had.  I wouldn't worry about them getting the flu because...well...they're dead.

But now I worry because medicine has kept them alive, and are much more susceptible to the virus.

medicine has kept them alive to get hit by a bus or light rail too.  we evolve, the strong survive but will always be vulnerable to "something" unforeseen.

medicines, vaccines and antibiotics are just some of the ways we evolve with the mutations, if you will, of the environment we live in

Perhaps this will be the impetus for big pharma to further develop antiviral drugs.

We have the horsepower to develop these drugs, the issue is there has been no economic benefit to develop a treatment for viruses since the disruption to daily life is so small from any of them.

If a new virus is going to circulate every spring and fall that will effectively shut down the global economy for months at a time, I have to believe this will be a major economic driver for large scale development of antiviral drugs.

I'll just state, you are wrong. Medical advances and practices have increased in the last 102 years. We know how diseases spread.

And another non winning post season under the belt.

Feel sorry for Villanova and Providence the most.  I thought those were the 2 teams from Big East that had best chance to go deep, based on how they were playing.

How'd LaSalle's season go? A very smart person told me their coach should be on Marquette's short list.

No where with me, O.K..

You are correct, 90 % of medical education is diagnostic.   Got it.

We know how diseases spread, isn't that great?   Now what is the treatment?  What is the plan?  We have the diagnosis.

As my doctor once said, "some people think they can live forever".   In Bergamo the medically compromised are getting ready to die.

How many ventilators, ICU beds, how many elderly infected?  How many medically compromised citizens?

How FAST can the industrial base start turning out cheap and dirty ventalators?  When do we stop elective surgery?   When does the Department  of Commerce issue DX Rated Contracts for ventilators?  When does the U.S.Army Natic Soldiers Systems Center kick in?

What is FEMA doing, field hospitals, where is the USS HOPE?

I know, you are getting no where with me.

They are and available.  Demand is very high as you can imagine as hospitals are looking for back up just in case.

But they exist.

Creighton will be just fine

Agree - commentators were talking about Creighton and Seton Hall as potential final 4 surprises. Would have crushed ESPN to have that kind of a year for the big east

I would agree.  I felt like other teams in the conference had developed enough cohesiveness and familiarity to pick apart MU at will.  Given this blueprint, the only team MU had a shot at winning against in the tourney was someone who poorly defended the perimeter.  Otherwise, the strategy is simple:  put your best defender on Howard and force the others to have to score.

I disagree. He missed out on the chance to salvage the season. I think everyone expected us to go 0-2 in ugly fashion based on our finish.

Perhaps. I saw nothing in this team to think they were winning Thursday. Wishful think on the parts of fans to think this team was suddenly going to beat SH.

What's their plan for football? That's been a train wreck from Day One.

Keefe,
From what I've read and heard everyone is pretty happy the way the independent schedule is filling up.
The UConn Women BB just signed a multi year $ contract with SNY that was not allowed under the AAC-ESPN deal.  The same release said the football team was close to a deal with SNY also.

It was news last week they play an away game at Ohio State in 2025 that pays them almost as much as what they would get in one season from the AAC.  Have an away game at Clemson and Michigan also somewhere in the future.
They made a 10 year deal with Army that everyone is happy about.  Signed multi year deals old rivals, Syracuse, Boston College and read they were speaking with Pittsburgh.  Multi year deal with North Carolina also with some home and homes with Big 10 teams.  Got lots of dates with UMass and Liberty also.
