Purdue's a good, well-coached team. KenPom ranks them #9 in the country. But this is definitely a winnable game.

Texas (ranked #30) put up 1.09 ppp, shooting 65.2% from 2-point range and 40.9% beyond the arc. After Purdue took a 62-57 lead with 3:14 to go, the Longhorns outscored the Boilermakers 13-4 the rest of the way. In other words, Purdue faded badly down the stretch and got outplayed at home by a team they should have beaten.

Even with 7-3 Matt Haarms, 6-9 Aaron Wheeler and 6-9 Trevion Williams, their interior defense was mostly ineffective. While they kept Texas off the offensive glass and forced 16 turnovers, that doesn't matter much when you allow an effective field goal percentage of 63.3% by your opponent. That was Purdue's worst defensive performance since losing to Virginia Tech on a neutral court a year ago.

If Marquette can keep turnovers in check, we should have the athleticism and depth to run Purdue out of Fiserv Forum.

Will Baker, top 35 recruit for Texas, 7 minutes, 0 points, 2 rebounds, 0 turnovers. Not the production Texas fans thought they'd be getting.

Ouch

Watched him a bunch 2 years ago bc he ran with our guy Quentin Grimes... was a pretty big fan tbh

Any word on Jayce? Feel like he is a big cog in this game

Of course, there's a couple other ways to look at it: 1) Purdue isn't as good as the preseason rankings project -- at least, not at this point in the season; and/or 2) Texas just gave us the blueprint to beating the Boilermakers.

I'll take either of those. Can we just skip the formality of actually playing, claim the victory, and start getting ready for F%cky?

Same.  Opening week schedule for MU gets a giant F.

The wait is excruciating. But it will be worth it if the extra time for game planning and practice pays off against Purdue.

Agree completely.  But it's offset by the A grade for week two scheduling.

Shoot well.   Move the ball.  No cheap turnovers.   Pressure the ball on defense.    Compete on the defensive boards.     Of course, that is the formula in most games.

I guess.  Playing Wisconsin on a Sunday is also a giant fail.  Allowing yourself to play Purdue with a week off after Purdue has already played a game of significance.  Also a fail.

I'm scurred. Please limit second chances for Purdue

Texas shot 63.3% & barely won

Not on a Sunday when the Packers have a bye.    ;D

If you need a little extra confidence, read some of the comments from Purdue fans about blowing the lead against Texas. More than one criticizes Nojel Eastern for not being tough enough after taking a shot below the belt. And check out the thread titled "We suck."

So we go to Pursue next year? Or was this a challenge game?
