No love for the Golden Eagles or Markus in latest issue . Hope we can prove that wrong on both issues !!  GO WARRIORS!!

UWW2MU

Is there a context to this where they should have?   I don't think MU or Howard has been mentioned by SI very much in the last 6 months.   What made you post this today of all days?

Shooter McGavin

Howard was their 3rd ranked player in the country.

Fantastic writer and friend to Marquette

Benny B

No mention of Markus or the Golden Eagles in the Wall Street Journal this morning.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

...Good article, couple MU mentions.   Nothing on Howard though, hopefully he uses this as motivation to silence the haters.

Curry was the best and definitely a friend of the program.

November 4 issue had 2019-20 preview.  Marquette not in their top 25. Also listed a top 5 list for player of the year. No Markus inclusion.  Big article on Texas Tech and Beard .

The latest Poor Richard's Almanac also spurns MU hoops and Markus.

Sorry, I only read outstanding or excellent articles.

Cliff's Notes Version:  MU is just a toxic, car fire...the bench is soft and just spontaneously decides to have snowball fights in the midst of the adversity.

Even Nads would have to agree. Curry Kirkpatrick was a sportswriter's sportswriter. Describing #14 as having a Cheshire Cat's smile was so spot on, hey?

I used to try to get to the mailbox before my brother did every Thursday so I could read the SI cover-to-cover before he did.  God forbid it was delayed and came on Friday.  Or the dreaded double-issue weeks.

It hasn't been like that in a long time.

He was a sportswriter's sportswriter. Was a big fan and rest of SI staff back in the day.

I miss the days of waiting by the mailbox for SI. Read it cover to cover as well. The simple things in life!

Yes, he was one of several sportswriters I used to love reading.

Sad to see what has become of SI. Like Goose and others, I used to eagerly await my issue every week. Had that Butch Lee cover on my wall, first in my house and then in my dorm!

No mention of Marquette in the Chicago Tribune either. I will go down to their office on the mezzanine floor and be sure to voice my displeasure while holding a life-size cutout of Markus.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Man, I lost that cover, and other similar stuff, in one of our many moves. For some reason, the only one I could find after moving here was of Bob Griese when the Dolphins completed their 17-0 season.

I had a friend find a bunch of SI's from 87-91.  Took them off his hand and just glancing through them, you realize the great work they used to do and all the great journalists that went through that place

Magazines, in general, have struggled for years.

Sports Illustrated employed a staff of high-paid photographers and writers and sent them all over the world to cover things. It was a very high-cost operation. As advertising dollars gradually diminished, it became more and more difficult for SI to do what made them special.

As one who wanted to get into that business in part because of all the great things I read in SI as a kid, it's sad to see a once-great publication become less than mediocre.

The latest edition of Martha Stewart Living also fails to give MU any love.
Have some patience, FFS.
