We have been in Vegas when the Electric Daisy Carnival was going on.

It's great for people watching.  Lots of girls walking around town with fur boots and and tutus.

Traffic to the venue (the Las Vegas Speedway) is legendarily horrible, so the rich kids helicopter in.
Have some patience, FFS.

Went 3 years in a row up until 2017. One of the best weekends of my life each time. Driving in is actually not terrible if you time it properly. We took a shuttle from the Strip the first year and it was a nightmare.

The helicopter stuff is overblown. You have 200 people in a crowd of 6 figures helicopter in  ::)

Going all night is a weather blessing too. Upper 70s of mid summer Vegas nights >>>>> the heat and humidity of Lolla or Summerfest

This might be a delicate subject but was anybody out in Las Vegas around the time of the shooting? Or know anybody who was out there? Kind of a weird dynamic with the city being so much of a tourist destination, I’m sure there was a strengthened sense of community but is it harder to find that there? How was it on the strip throughout the rest of that week, etc?

I was there a couple weeks after.  And because I'm 'known', some of my favorite hospitality folks drop the Vegas 'happy facade' with me.  Several knew victims 2nd or 3rd hand.  The night it happened, cell phones exploded checking on friends and colleagues.  Everyone stood in line for hours to give blood.

Vegas is a strange town as folks typically struggle to 'get close'.  We all rallied around the Knights immediately.  Something that was instantly ours.

I'm glad I have friends out there I can count on.  And they know the can count on me.  Vegas need more of that.

I have a friend that works at Wynn and was in lockdown that night. He was texting me for details from the CNN coverage. There were a ton of rumors of other shooters at other locations and folks in lockdown had no idea what to believe. It was very surreal watching things unfold and texting with my friend.

On another note, I was in Vegas for Tyson-Holyfield fight years ago and there was a shooting in MGM lobby, main casino after the fight and all hell broke lose. I could not believe all well Vegas keeps this type of news under wraps. I thought for sure it would be national news and it barely got reported outside of Vegas. I was in casino, and very near some very famous folks, and amazed how well security reacted to protect these folks.

I work with a young woman who was at the concert when it happened. She still has frequent nightmares and anxiety when she hears loud noises and sirens.

That has to be a tough one to live with. Hope she can get past it, and/or get professional help to manage.

I thought I remembered seeing about the hours long lines for donating blood. And definitely remembered the Vegas Playoff run that the community rallied around. Do a good percentage of the people who own property in Las Vegas have a different residence elsewhere?

I can only imagine what it would’ve been like being in a different part of the strip that night. So much chaos and uncertainty. Still don’t know how you pinpoint where it’s coming from when he’s hundreds of yards away and many floors up.

Can’t even imagine. We all have our battles but that’s a tough one.

I'm going to say no but I'm not sure. While there's certainly a higher percentage of snowbirds than there would be in Milwaukee, the majority of folks that I know out there are permanent transplants only living there.  I will make one distinction.  Folks in their 40s or 50s are almost always originally from out of state.  Folks in the 20s are now often second generation native born to the area.
