I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

RIP Cincy.

If (when) Cincy hires the Northern Kentucky coach they'll be just fine.

I wonder how he'll feel coaching in the shadow of a water polo powerhouse

I think it's a great move for Cronin. He has had trouble winning in NCAA, but the wins will come. He will have the opportunity for better seedings moving forward.

Curious to see the Cincy response - now a program in the American with a strong history and a consistent presence in NCAA, it will be fun to see who they target.

auburnmarquette

Hate to say I just root against the American because of the split and wanting it established that the power 5+BE are the power 6 in basketball. Liked Cronin.

My personal dream is still and 11-team big East with UConn, but I'm thrilled with the stability if the current 10

So a program that's never content with anything less than a Final Four hires a coach that can't get to the Sweet 16, and a fanbase that was all too happy to see Howland's slowdown defensive style that won games get ran out of town is supposed to embrace a style that's even more slowdown and defensively based?

Someone fire up the hot air popper...

I don't put too much weight in the tournament results because crapshoot (although Cronin's now got an extensive enough history that there may be something to it), but my thoughts exactly on the style.

UC job bigger than MU? Same? I really don't know.

I would put MU slightly above Cincy at this point due to better resources. IMHO of course

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

So Cronin is like the 8th choice by an AD with one foot out of the door.

Anyone checking the flights from Racine to Youngstown to keep tabs on Wojo regarding the Cincinnati job?

so here are the odds for the ncaa championship, world series, and the superbowl:
UVA - 5/1
Duke - 8/1
Kentucky - 8/1
(Marquette - 40/1)

Patriots - 6/1
Chiefs - 8/1
Rams - 8/1

Dodgers - 11/2
Astros - 7/1
Yankees - 7/1

am i missing something...or is it less of a crapshoot than some might believe?

GoldenWarrior11

Cincinnati's fan base really soured on Cronin in recent years for his inability to win games in the tournament.  In thirteen seasons, Cronin only managed to get to the Sweet 16 once.  After Huggins' tenure (where he got to a Final Four and two Elite Eights), I could definitely see a sense of disappointment and frustration.

Things can always be better - but they can also get worse too.  This will be a very interesting search for sure.  They could pursue Matta (who has had success in the tournament), lower level coaches in McMahon (Murray State) or Brennan (NKU) or even go the ever-trending alumnus route with a Nick Van Exel (Memphis Grizzlies' assistant coach).

The Al, the new dorm, Wojo's salary, MU contract with the Bucks to play at Fiserv all paid with Taxes? Don't think so.

Yes, you are missing something.
