Texas A&M better job than Marquette
« on: April 03, 2019, 02:49:53 PM »
Wait...Buzz leaves Marquette to go to Va Tech to ultimately go to Texas A&M? I’ll begrudgingly accept coaching in the ACC as a reason to leave and I get why he might want to go back home but A&M really? What does this say about MU Rah Rah as a destination?

When schools like TAMU, Tenn, Georgia, TCU, etc all have better coaches than Marquette I think that’s a problem.

Who's TCU's coach?
I'll stick with my opinion on Gold.  He'll be in foul trouble within the first eight minutes.

I don’t subscribe to the notion that there is no such thing as a dumb question. At present their coach is light years better then the dope we have.

Mods, delete this thread.

Just as the transitive property as it relates to game results is asinine,
It is even dumber when applied to coaching moves.

Not that hard, people.

Buzz had the MU train steaming big-time. The coal being shoveled into the engine (his handling of disciplinary matters and thwarting investigations) was not environmentally sound. He saw the writing on the wall and left before it was not his decision. He took a pay cut to go to an historically lesser program.

He since built up said program and now, only after having done the building himself, decided he wants to go home. There is no Marquette<Va Tech<Texas A&M equation. So stop. Please.
Zenyatta has a lot....a lot... of ground to make up. She gets there from here she’d be a super horse......what’s this.....Zenyatta hooked to the grandstand side....Zenyatta flying on the outside....this....is...un-belieeeeeevable!...looked impossible at the top of the stretch...

Did any of you Wojo critics watch and March Madness games besides Marquette?  The sec had 4 sweet 16 teams to none for the Big East. We had the luxury of playing in the BIG big East for a decade that culminated in 3 sweet 16s.  A beat up Louisville can still take a coach from a great big East program, like any of the power 5 can do. Their alumni basis are many times as big.

I guess I'm glad all the "fire Bruce Pearl" fans from two years ago when he had a 44-54 record seem to have moved to Milwaukee to attack Wojo instead while i at least get to celebrate a final 4 here. I love the big East and we are very lucky to have Jay Wright as well as legends with St John's and Georgetown. If Wojo stays long term Marquette will he great - if not then we could have another string of 2 sweet 16s in 31 years like we did before Buzz.

Didn't realise you held Buzz in such high regard

Sadly, I don't think Marquette has put itself in a position to achieve these goals. Buzz is an average, at best, coach and our recruitment has focused too much on JUCO players which lack leadership and bball intellect.

We all know these guys probably could add, subtract, or put together a coherent sentence. We're not talking ACT or SAT scores.

But they should be able to understand basketball strategy and if something isn't working how to change it.

Buzz does deserve some blame here too.

Seems to me you "All American Posters" just can't tolerate opinions outside your own.The program is better off with ruthless fans who will only accept excellence. The future is now and fans should be disgusted with the players, Buzz, the entirety of this season. Just because you post all the time doesn't make your opinion more valid. Maybe it just makes you loud.

Everyone should be welcome to voice an opinion on here. We all want W's. Period.

Maybe in the end we'll be better off.

Yes - we had very good years under Buzz, but this year was atrocious. It seemed to me that he was unwilling to change based on the personnel he had and that doesn't bode well for the future. A coach would cannot adapt is bound to die.

We have high expectations at MU. Va Tech has made the NCAA's twice in 25 years - the ball is low there and he'll probably sweat through less shirts with lowered pressure and expectations.

Lets get real - the pressure at Marquette is high. We expect results and at Va Tech they don't. This pressure led to profuse sweating. His dry cleaning bill must have been enormous. Maybe he cannot afford to coach at Marquette.

(just applying some levity).

Good riddance I say.

Sometimes you have to pay more to make up for other shortcomings that make a job crappier.

And sometimes the fact that you pay more makes your job better. All about perspective and priorities.

Well, it is the largest school in TX and has over 450,000 alums.  I suspect they could find some money to pay well.

I am guessing Harvard alums could pony up a nice payday for a coach, do they pay their coach $3.5m? They are paying Buzz big coin because they want to win a high level.

Have you paid attention to the recruiting haul he has made since he has been at Georgia??

You made my point.  He had some great recruiting classes at I-4.  His 2012-13 team was the number 1 ranked team for about 10 weeks.  The best he could do is Sweet 16.  Can he recruit?  Yes.  Can he coach?  I argue he's not the best in game coach.

Is he better than Wojo?  Next year, Wojo will arguably have the best team while a head coach, though they won't be ranked No. 1 for 10 minutes, let alone 10 weeks.  Let's see what he does with it.

Kevin O'Neill coached at Northwestern, after Tennessee, after Marquette.

Ergo, Northwestern is a better job than Marquette.

We are doomed.
