We were a legit top 10 team and leading at Nova when Howard fell on his wrist.  Nova then scored the last 12 of 13 points of the game to win and we went 1 - 6 the rest of the way, after starting 23-4.

Other than Howard hurting his wrist, what else happened at that moment that collapsed the season?

Or, was it Howard getting hurt?  See how helpless Duke looked when Zion was out, they were blown out by UNC and needed a lucky roll to beat a terrible Wake Forest at home. Did Howard's injury have a similar effect on us?

Amazing take....your insights are spot on.  Do you "Dab" after every post or do you celebrate with a "Fortnite" dance?

Didn't Howard hurt his wrist against Creighton the Sunday after?

Try again. It was Butler.

Are you guys paying attention?

Howard again downplayed his left wrist injury.

The guard hurt the wrist at Villanova on Feb. 27 and has been playing with it taped. He aggravated it against Seton Hall in the Big East tournament semifinals.

Da 'Lanche

The season turned when Creighton exposed our turnover machine tendencies when pressured on the perimeter with our lack of a true point guard in Milwaukee.   Gameplanning against us got much easier.

Eliott and Kobe should go a long way to fixing this next year.

With all that is sort of holy...I hope so!

Dr. Blackheart

Heise, the season turned at Butler when Howard pulled his groin at Butler on a late Baldwin foul. He lost his hop and ball penetration pop after that.  His step back went away and he limited his drives. MU had no one to spell him.

The wrist compounded his effectivess no doubt.

We were never a "legit" top 10 team.  Even when we were ranked in the top 10 we were like 30ish by all the metrics.

We were fortunate to be in a crappy conference and have some lucky wins.  We were never a top 10 caliber team.

Their issues appeared as much mental which led to the physical miscues.  They played pretty well at Nova.  Then they looked tight.  Couldn't finish games.  How many 14-0, 18-0 runs dis we see in this swoon?  Is that a reflection of the coach feeling the pressure?

It's not how you start, it's how you finish.  Listening to the Nova fans in Nov talking about Jay playing guys and establishing roles and rotations.  I think we put the pedal to the metal from the jump.  Our kids got tired and they faltered.

No on the coach feeling the pressure.  That is an ignorant statement.

Yes, they Wojo should have been slower to settle the rotation to save guys for later in the season.  They looked tired.  So we should have seen more Heldt, BB, JC, and Cain through mid-late January so starters were not dragging as much in March.

Wojo will not make that

muhoops1

I guess my point was if Wojo feels the pressure and tightens up does that transfer to the team?  Do they play tighter, press more which ultimately leads to mistakes.  Just seemed like when things started going south the team faded.

Beware Backup QB syndrome.  Chartouney was supposed to be the answer to PG.  Greg showed nothing last year that indicated he'd be an acceptable PG even before the hand injury.  Maybe Koby is the answer, but he is far from proven IMO.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have no problem with Markus being our PG, I don't think it hurt us at all this season. Not having a backup did but that's a separate point.

What I do think hurt us a lot was a lack of slashers. Markus and Sacar were the only two who could get to the rim. Markus got hurt and Sacar was too inconsistent. That is where Greg and Koby should help.

"lucky wins at home"

We smoked KSU and UB. Not lucky. Good teams.
