Magic number is down to 3 to win the Big East. Any Marquette win or Villanova loss lowers the number by 1.

Once the number hits 1 a tie is clinched. Let's get it down to 1 Wednesday!

Hope this "magic number" countdown works out better for MU than it did for the Cubs in the MLB thread.

I hope it works out exactly the same.

Or 3 in 111?  Which averages to 1 every 37 years.

1977 + 37 = 2014

Yeah good with that as well. We are due.

They won the World Series this year? Weird. Could've sworn they didn't even make it to a Divisional Series...

Personally I hope we don't see a giant lead with very little season left to play dwindle down to losing the conference like the Cubs in the division this year.

What the hell. Marquette is playing for a Big East title and you use this to rip the Cubs.

What is wrong with you?

robmufan

I came for basketball talk. If we want to talk abour how brewers fans are getting so puffy chested about winning the division last year...I'll just google how many WS they have won...hell ill even include the Seattle pilots

Both sayings sound good.  ;)

Does 3 include Nova's loss to X today?

Just a reminder that conference tournaments are dumb ways of determining auto bids, if it means there is next to no point to winning a regular season title

Edit: and to clarify, tournaments can still be exciting so long as we admit that they are not the best way so determine best school in conference

TallTitan34

Love having a magic number less than how many games are remaining.  Allows for an outright title even with a loss somewhere.

That hurts! Congrats on your one title in 104 years! If I could choose one sports franchise's success to call my own it is undoubtedly the Cubs!

The magic number is stupid. Win the game in front of you. 1 is the only number that matters. 1-0 every game.

Could be wrong but I think it is two. If we win at Nova, we are BE Champs. We'd be up 3 games with 3 left but tie breaker in hand versus Nova.

So math is stupid compared to your cliche phrase. Got it.

The Big East does co-champs if there is a tie. Tiebreaker is just for seeding the tournament.

How about St. John's?  I don't what to see then in the BET.  Can they lock up the 3 seed so they face the 2 seed in the semis? (I assume 2 plays 3 and 1 plays 4 in the semis).

Agreed. Don't want to have to play them until the finals.

Luckily other teams seem to have success with them.

Basketball isn't played on a calculator. The next game on the court is important. The math is not.

Sure they could lock up the 3. And we could be the 2 and play them in the semis.

There's still season to be played.
