1. The most impactful change was when the American Basketball Association introduced the 3 pt basket.
2. The DH in the American league
3. Moving the goal post off the the goal line to the back of the end zone, I may be wrong but I think the goal post is not as wide as it once was. Also the forward pass.

I am sure there are others.

Actual hoops rather than peach baskets.

Cutting a hole in the bottom of the peach basket was a big idea.  They used to need a ladder to get the ball after someone scored.  There also used to be a jump ball after every made basket.  Dribbling was also big.  Originally the only way to move the ball was via a pass.

I think the illegal contact rule, which doesn't exist in college or high school, changed the NFL more than the goalposts.  Players used to be able to contact the receiver all the way down the field until the pass was in the air.

I also think allowing offensive linemen to use their hands changed the game in a similar manner.

Lowering the mound was the first thing I thought of. Most people do not understand the effect of that change.

Biggest change in basketball was widening the lane in an attempt to stop Wilt from dominating. Without that change, big back-to-the-basket centers would still be the rage.
