Vander Blue Man Group

Since the 0-9 at home against DePaul:

12.4 PPG
64.1% FG
73% 3-PT FG (I know but still fun)

Some of this has coincided with Joey's recent struggles and the 3 FG% is an aberration but he's been really solid offensively lately.

I admit..I was pretty hard on him early in the year..but boy has he proven me wrong. He's been fantastic!

Sources say he's the worst 2 guard in the BEast BY FAR.

He hits 35% and it's huge.

Up to 38% with Chartouny at 36%. Both are capable.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

His offense has been exactly what we have been missing. If Joey returns to form and Sacar keeps this up....

TAMU

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

This is why next year's team could/should be even better. We only lose Chartouny and Heldt (hopefully) and we get McEwen and Elliott back (and hopefully a resolution to the Eke situation). We would have close to 175 minutes a game returning next year, plus a more experienced Joey, Theo, and Bailey.

I'm excited for the rest of this year but next year should be just as fun if not more, before we have to reload for 20-21. (Losing Howard, Sam, Anim, Morrow)

I'm totally making this up... but it seemed like he stopped trying to create off the bounce for awhile (problem could be there is only one ball).  When he started focusing on getting to the hoop everything else has opened back up for him.

Sacar is a rarity in college basketball.  After a lackluster freshman year, it would be easy to search for a team where his skillset is good enough for a more prominent role.  It would be easy to blame the coach who doesn't give him the playing time he needs.  Sacar did neither.  He realized he needed to improve his game in order to be a contributor on his current team, taking the rare Sophomore redshirt.  Now it is paying dividends.  How many kids have that type of self-awareness in their late teens?

I like this post a lot. Whether it was self-awareness or willingness to listen to sound advice -- or most likely a combo of both -- Sacar deserves a ton of credit for making a mature decision that helped both him and his team.

When he's especially "bouncy" on the court, as he has been the last few games, he reminds me of JJJ. Not as good a passer/creator but a better defender.

He's been huge the last few games. Solid 3rd or 4th scoring option when you need it

It reminds me a little of Vander's junior year. He is starting to finish better at the hoop and is getting a midrange shot to fall. Also, he is a threat from 3. It really takes some pressure off Markus and the Haisers. He's also hit some clutch shots.

I thought the change started with Georgetown after he was the primary ballhandler for much of the game. He has seemed to be more involved since then. He had a couple down games after GT but then took off. Seems much more comfortable as part of the offense now.

It especially helps Stan Haiser.

In those 5 games, Sac's ORtg has been a ridiculous 131 (Sam 126 in the time period, Markus 118, Theo 115, Joey 103). Of course, relatively low usage at 15%, but very nice

Sacar uses this one move/play a couple of times a game:  he gets the ball on the extended left elbow and then dribbles hard with his right hand in a curl move around at least two screens in the lane, driving all the way to the basket on the right, usually putting it in off the glass.

He's also leading the Big East in 3P% now for conference games only (48%)...
