what's up with some of the girls dress like it 90 degrees outside with these tube tops?

Sometimes a little classless behavior adds to the atmosphere. The "[player] sucks!" chant is classless and stupid, but it's a fun little tradition to kick off the game. I'm pretty sure no one on Nova's team is wasting any energy handwringing about this chant.

There are so many things in this world to be outraged at. There is nothing in this thread that I feel warrants the level of outrage that some on both sides of this argument seem to have. Outrage is an important limited resource

Agree. I'm not a fan of the f-Nova chant, but I'm not about to get worked up about it.

Same. It was a bit cringey but I'm not worked up over it. Loved the "F Wake Forest" chant for an 11am game on a Sunday, however. That was a good game.

Harass them!

I knew this thread was going to be an incredible disaster when I saw it at 4 pages. It still exceeded my expectations.

Simultaneously true:

1. Chants like this are stupid and uninspired.

2. Fixating on this stupid chant instead of the terrific program win today is a revealing choice.

3. Scoopers will deride the student section for the end of time, no matter how they behave. This is also a revealing choice.

MU vs DePaul in the early '80's. One whole side of the Arena is filled with Diocesan priests. A veritable sea of black with white speckles.

A bum call by the refs and the student section erupts in a full-throated, PBR-fueled chant of, "Bull Sh1t! Bull Sh!t!"

The thousands of Diocesan priests, far from being outraged, joined the students in letting the refs know they had failed the game.

It's sport. It's entertainment. It's supposed to be fun.

It's classless and uncool in hindsite. But all the middle aged parents need to step down from their high horse and remember that when they drunkenly stumbled to the games they likely cheered similar things that they wouldn't want said in front of kids. I don't care for it, but I know I chanted f*ck the (insert team here) many many times. Admit you're holding 18-22yr olds at a higher standard than you likely lived up to simply because you have a kid with you.

That said, bring back the "hey you suck" Chant.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

I'm not a fan because I think it's a bit lazy, but I have less issue with the students chanting F You Nova than I did the guy who started a cursing tirade in the middle of our section over a call. The occasional expletive I get, but it was long, loud, and drew the attention of everyone nearby. This wasn't an 18-22 year old, this was someone that looked to be in his 30s.

I don't think hoping for a little restraint is too much to ask. The students are gonna student, whatever, but once you've graduated from that section into the adult sections, you should at least put some effort into acting like you belong there.

This I agree with. I'll say I'd let the young alumni section be rowdy as well but as a whole it's fairly distasteful to be shouting expletives like crazy outside of those two areas. There's no mob-mentality rational or anything it's just pure anger issues and embarrassing to be the crazy cursing shouting guy in a rather low key section.

But I standby my point that I think many on this thread are holding young adults to a higher standard that they held themselves to because their kids are involved now and the expectation of many of the new parents I know is that the world bends to their needs when their kids are involved.

It's kind of dumb, and looks childish. If I did it back then, then I looked dumb and childish back then.

Time to move on.

Wow. Comparing a chant using the word f*ck to one using one of the most vile words in existence is beyond stupid. Well done.
You (unsurprisingly) completely disprove your position.  The F word used to be the vilest, while the N word was common. Societal pressure has made the N word unacceptable, while societal acceptance has made the F word more appropriate.  Kind of proves the point some on here are making.

I'm not a saint and have dropped my share of f bombs in public.  As I get older, I get more embarrassed because it is rude and it does offend people, and it's just not necessary, so why do it?

Your inability to grasp context, analogy and simple logic is world class ignorant. You have repeated the same stupid, infantile, insipid argument so many times in this thread that you should be exhausted. I know I'm tired (and saddened) reading, rereading, rereading and rereading it. The possibility (however small) that you may have an MU degree is nearly as depressing as today's victory was exhilarating.

The condescension is truly as impressive as your ignorance. No point in continuing to trade insults.

That being said, if you want to question the "small possibility" I have a degree, I'll happily put the results of my 4 years at Marquette up against yours.

Because the N word was common in the past didn't make it any less vile. To compare use of the two words in any context is laughable to me.

In the era of cameras everywhere, I think a good response to this two-fisted slopper is to take out a phone and record while encouraging him.

"Dude, you are awesome!  I'm putting this on Youtube for everyone to enjoy!"

RushmoreAcademy

This is one of the most entertaining threads in recent memory. Love it!
The highlight was "I have godchildren."

My take: Chant is dumb. Guy swearing loudly is out of line and glad to hear he was removed. People swearing in frustration at public sporting event is part of life and always has been and always will be the case. Not a big deal. Yes I have kids.

Frenns Liquor Depot

I am so happy that this is what we are fighting about following NMD.  Nice to be relevant again.

UWW2MU

I'm not overly worked up about this enough to make a post saying "how dare you," but it is certainly disappointing in the image I wish we'd portray.

The question any MU fan should ask themselves is... would they rather be viewed more in line with a Badger fan or a Villanova fan?

I think that question speaks for itself, and anyone who is fine with this chant is likely no better than a UW-Madison fan already anyway.   But hey, every program has "those people."   ::)

You guys complain a lot about silly stuff.

College kids that had been drinking since 9 am and half of ya'll expect them to be angels? But you also want them to be loud all the time without anyone encouraging them. Interesting.

So:
BE LOUD!
But don't swear!

Good luck.

Just as using the F word now is vile.  Again disproving your point.  Good thing you can laugh, I don't know how much else you have going for you.
