I understand most everyone who follows American sports in 2019 is sucked in by computers. There are some of us who can look at that and then still work in what we actually see happening in the game rather then what an algorithm tells us what happened in the game.

I've seen Marquette play 21 games. I've seen Nova play 17 games. I have a very good friend who attended Nova and has watched every iteration of the program since 1986. He has watched every iteration of Marquette since 2003.

I have a very good friend who was an All-American his Senior year in University and is finishing his 21st season as a head coach of an NJ high school. His father was an All-American high schooler who played at Georgetown.

The assistant coaches at his school, the two head coaches of rival schools that we're friendly with (one played at Marist University for four years; one coached the NJ State Champions two seasons ago), and two other friends (one who attended Hall and one who attended PC) are also people I talk with frequently about college hoops.

The consensus amongst this group over the course of the last eight weeks is that Marquette is marginally better then Nova. I know these people aren't computers. They're just basketball lifers who have decades of exposure to the Big East.

Yeah, but did you or any of your associates ever dunk in high school?

I've watched roughly the same amount of these two teams and have come to the opposite conclusion. Not at the beginning of the season but since Big East play began I think Nova has been the better team (though at Butler gives me a lot of hope). That's why people use computers. Two human beings can look at the same thing and come to completely different conclusions. Doesn't mean the computers are right, just means they are objective while the humans are not.

that's why they play on a wooden court rather than a spreadsheet.

Computers (T-rank, Kenpom) say that Marquette is a 3 point favorite against Villanova and @ Depaul. Whether or not that happens will be another thing.

Computer predict a 74-71 win over Nova and a 77-74 win over Depaul.

Looking at the numbers from T-Rank we are favored in every game except @ Nova which we are a 6 point dog. The largest spread is the final game of the year vs Georgetown where we are a 10 point favorite.

Well no. They play on a wooden court because playing on a spreadsheet would be very boring to watch! (Though kids pay money to watch others play video games now so what do I know?)

So, you feel Marquette was marginally better for the 13 games these teams played in 2018 but that Nova is marginally better for the nine games these teams have played in 2019?

GooooMarquette

Metrics no matta.

Team that plays better matta....

More or less yes. Since we are talking about which team is presently better, those 9 games matta more than the first 13. Though I'll repeat again, that win at Butler was our best data point of the conference season. Makes me a little more optimistic moving forward.

We need to get as many Marquette fans as possible to the game. Tickets are cheap and plentiful.
