Nah, my gripe came in 2013. "Miami by a sizeable margin," with an obviously smug look on his face. But yes, he was excellent today.
So, a prediction.

In what way?  It was designed to be basically a mashup of the uniforms of the last 40 years.

Color for starters.  Guess I am just wasn't as offended.  Seemed like an ok comment.

Which of the announcers said that the kid  in the student section was wearing an old school Marquette uniform?  How can they not know what are current unis look like?
That was Doug.

When I saw it, I immediately thought 76-77 season uniform... designed by Bo!

It's easy to bitch about the officiating (especially when things are not going well). I usually don't go overboard with that, but today I was kind of stunned by how bad the zebras were, and was somewhat vocal about it with some colorful language. Such behavior on my part usually leads to marital discord, so I am grateful to Gottlieb for bailing me out today. My theory is that when even the announcers are critical, the reffing is bad. I would say that (at least) half of the fouls on Theo and Matt were poor calls. The makeup call on Sam was egregiously inept.

Can anyone point out a good place online to see who reffed where? So far the box scores I've seen do not list the officials.

Good call Lenny......Doug was really good today.

Pomeroy. Not sure if it's behind the pay wall or not.

In any case, Roger Ayers - 5th in 6 days, this week, Charlotte Monday, Pitt Tuesday, Fordham Wednesday, cuse Thursday, Cincy today.

Brent Hampton - 4th in 5 days, this week, Georgia Tech Tuesday, Rhode Island Wednesday, Southern Miss Thursday, Cincy today

Tim Clougherty - 3rd in 4 days, this week, UMass Wednesday, cuse Thursday, Cincy today.

He was also good with Joe Davis on FS1 for Arizona at USC on Thursday night.

Lighthouse 84

I said at the beginning of the game in the game thread, DG blows.  He changed my opinion of him after today. He was good.

Found a KenPom article fro 2 yrs. ago that said that Ayers was the best ref. Yikes!

Eye

YW Miles. Pomeroy's ref ratings are based on the team rankings of the games the individual official officiates. So a guy who does a Villanova - Marquette game this year gets more credit than a guy who does a Milwaukee - Green Bay game this year. Not based on any objective analysis of how the official does in the games he does.
GO WARRIORS!

Like most (all?) Marquette fans I have never liked DG. Today, he was "Awesome with a capital A, baby". Excellent analysis, very complimentary and (like the play by play guy) said we'll always be the Warriors!

My wife said early in the game today that the announcers seem really good like they know what they are talking about.  Told her that Doug G. Was "spot on."  He was a 100% better than Brian Anderson who doesn't know basketball and that's why he is awful as a play by play announcer.  Hope we have more Doug G. Do more games.

Comparing the color guy to the play by play guy probably isn't the best comparison to make.

Mr. Nielsen

Wow. That's a new one. Someone not liking Brian Anderson.

He's always very knowledgeable and I typically agree with most of what he says, he just can't get out of his own way sometimes and loves hearing his own voice way too much. As a color guy who has to let the play by play guy talk, he's good. As a studio guy he tries to be the smartest guy on set.

This. Well said, wades.

I said after the game that it was nice hearing Brennaman and Gotlieb today, thought they added to the broadcast.

The only time my wife and I got p-o'ed was when they kept talking about their spilled coffee while the game was going on and they completely missed a foul call, on Joey IIRC.

Tell that to Anderson who does more color talk than play by play announcing.

I thought the play by play guy was awful.  And I could give a crap if you spill your coffee.

Quote of the game was when they were talking nfl playoffs and DG complimented the patriots saying "they went into kansas city and let the air out of the football, air out of the stadium"

MUeng

Doug was into the game today. You could tell both were like "whew, these teams can shoot!" Great BE game, great win. Doug keeps it real

GooooMarquette

I've had issues with Doug in the past - mostly that he often seemed to be overly critical of MU. Maybe he didn't like TC or Burt but likes Wojo; maybe he just likes this group of guys; or maybe he is maturing enough to rein in his biases. Whatever it was, I thought he was outstanding today.

Once he stops ripping your team long enough to get you to want to listen, he really is awesome at dissecting the plays.

I'm sure he gives Cubs fans nightmares in what happened in October of 2003.

My favorite DG quote today was, "Wojo is tougher than a two-dollar steak."
