Xavier, don’t sleep
« on: January 25, 2019, 11:38:11 AM »
In a little over 24 hrs Marquette has a game at the Cintas Center. As we all know this isn’t an easy place to play, so the guys need to bring it.

I really hope wojo stresses how important and tough this game will be- it seems like one of the biggest “trap” games of the conference season. With the manhandling of X a few weeks ago and them having a down year, a Butler away game midweek plus Johnnies and Nova coming to the Serve soon, it’s easy in my mind to see how a letdown would be possible.

I know this board doesn’t have the same mindset as the team (and thank God), but I’ve seen mentioned a few times that next week at Butler can be a rude awakening. Hopefully wojo has the team ready for a battle tomorrow because it will turn into that if the focus and energy arent fully there

Conference road game against a desperate team.     Anything can happen.

Not as worried about this one as say, at Hinkle but I have confidence the Wojo will have them ready to go.

Snake pit environment . Have to play well to win. Need to have a decent lead going into final 4 minutes of game . Don’t know Quentin Goodin Status, he has been injury plagued all year.

Wojo and the guys definitely can't sleep on X or Butler.

As for me, I intend to be totally unprepared for both until I flip on the TV. ;)

Xavier has come back from some big deficits late this year, and nearly came back from 10 down with 3 minutes to go v. Prov the other night at home. They blew opportunities they created down the stretch with their own turnovers, but definitely have the ability to apply full court pressure and force turnovers in a hurry. Due to a lack of depth, I'm not sure how long they can play that style, fortunately.

Unless X has a hot day shooting from the outside, we should be ok in this one, but they will be coming out ticked after their loss Wed. They have athletic guards with pretty good size that can create problems for MU if not sharp, and X always has a very good crowd at Cintas. Should be a good one.

How so?

According to Wades every upcoming game is the biggest game of the year, and us as fans can never look past any game or we will lose it.

Question for the Scoop legal community.
I have an annoying neighbor who is a Cincy grad who insists on pronouncing it "Ecks-Zavier" instead of "Zavier".
Am I within my legal rights to punch him for this?

As a 1L, I can't yet say for sure (might depend on if the judge is a Xavier grad) but I'll be interested to see what happens.

Cinch grads can’t figure out how to pronounce their own names much less correct pronunciation of Xavier!!!

It's all the fault of Professor Xavier of the X-Men, who insists on pronouncing in Ecks-Zavier.  I would say you could punch Professor X in the face if you dare, but he's been punished enough, what with being in a wheelchair and all.  OTOH, he gets to hang out with Halle Berry and all, and when she gets too old, another young beauty takes her place.  So there's that.

Pretty sure Wojo is telling the team that Xavier sucks, road games are easy, they should stay out all night and then be sure to bring their 'C' games tomorrow.

Big lead on the road is very dangerous...if the home team starts something and the crowd gets involved late it is very momentum shifting (ala 2017 Nova).

This, so much this.

I mean, if I was the coach I wouldn't tell them this, but to be honest what's refreshing about this season is Marquette does not have to bring their A-Game to win games.

Good thing we've got excellent FT shooters if/when they start the desperation foul train

The question of legal rights is a little bit sketchy, but you can rest safe with the knowledge that he won’t be able to figure out how to find a lawyer to sue you.

Of the next 4 upcoming games, a win Sat lessens the sting of a potential loss later.

A loss on Sat, coupled with a potential loss at Hinkle and then things may change a little bit going into the next two games.

A win Sat gives us a little more of a cushion.

That would be a big loss for them.  I'm a big fan of his game.
