And rest.  Our guys looked tired last night.  We've played a ton of games since Christmas.  Great that the schedule starts to lighten up even if the quality of opponents goes up.

And the book on MU has been to beat them up. Our guys constantly get tagged, grabbed, bodied, figuring the refs can't call everything. The reason these games seem like grinds is that's exactly what the lesser teams want to turn the game into.

The fact that MU is still winning these games is hugely encouraging to me. That wouldn't have happened in prior years.

Against Seton Hall and DePaul we have had big leads at the half and let the opponent back in it to start the 2nd half.  Also seem to have some issues starting the game like we did last night.  Not sure what the issue is, but as the competition ramps up, need to have better starts.

You can rest guys a bit when you have 17 point leads with 3 minutes to go.  You can't do that in a tight game.

And against Providence, Creighton, and Georgetown we were down 8+ and managed to come back and win. College teams are inconsistent.

At the 7:22 timeout.......

'Take care of the ball!  Take care of the ball!  Take care of the ball!  If there is a turnover you can't drop back.  You gotta sprint back.'

Markus knew, spit his mouthpiece in self reflection, and wiped his face with a towel.

The rest of the way he was 1/2 from the floor, hit 11 straight FTs, had a big assist to Theo, and committed ZERO turnovers.

This team is coachable and wants to win.  It's a long grind and a long season.  When they are on all cylinders they can beat anyone.

Its DJOver

Something that I feel is being overlooked with this team is its offensive "spurtability".  With 6:30 left in the first half we had 18 points, we finished the half with 40.  Against PC, with 6:30 left in the game we had 54, ended with 79 (with only 2 fta in the last 60 seconds, so not much garbage time action).  It reminds of a not as good Nova last year, where they could essentially end a game in a 4 minute stretch by blowing up from 3.  With our much more consistent D this year, I think we are very rarely out of games because our offense has the potential to be as efficient as it was last year.  Also means that we have yet to hit our ceiling, as, if we can play like that for 40 minutes we could beat any team in the country.

Honestly "grind together, shine together" would be more appropriate for this group. Never out of it when they play as a team.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

That coach is gone.

When I saw him say it, it truly looked like it was an off-the-cuff remark.  He wasn't trying to invent a catchphrase.
Have some patience, FFS.

Oh, I realize that. Just replying to glow's response about the motto. T-shirt worthy (gtst, win every day, etc) phrases that describe the team just haven't appeared and the wordiness of the Wojo statement doesn't work.

Just thinking from a marketing side to encompass the team.

Best part of tonight is that unless the bottom drops out on some of the other big teams east teams, we only have one Quadrant 3 game remaining—Georgetown at home on senior day, which I just don't see us losing.  Be great to avoid any Q3 losses.

No way we lose on senior day, because we will be starting the Milkman, who is better than Luke Fischer.

Then Leito gave Wojo a neck massage.  For reals.

I liked Leitao better when he played Bob Alexander in the movie Dave.

After rewatching the game one thing to note for future games. Markus got called for a travel at 855 in the 1st half.  I feel like he's done the same side step step back thing 10 times already this year. He had at least 3 of these vs Creighton that they let go and it's a huge part of his game to create space.  By the rules this has always been a travel. However the NBA legalized it by inventing the gather step.  This is what Harden is making famous, but Jimmy, Wade, and others are very good  at it as well. I wonder if Leito brought it to the attention of the refs before hand. They immediately called it and Markus didn't complain.

You can do it legally if the dribble is still coming up on the side step. Just have to master the timing.
