While I loved the moment last night, Sam's would be last on that list for me. After J in '77, Doc's half court to beat ND was most excited in my lifetime.

I actually would put Vander's shot against St John's to clinch a piece of the BEast title earlier in that season above it too.

You almost need a regular season list (i.e. all of Jimmy Butler's last second heroics) vs. shots that meant something in the tourney or or to clinch something important.

If by "best shot" or "greatest shot" you mean the most amazing, had-to-see-it-to-believe-it shot, it has to be Sam's three last night.

If, on the other hand, you mean the most momentous or meaningful shot, then it would have to be one that took place in a bigger, more meaningful game.

I voted for Sam's. I saw it. And I'm still not sure I believe it.

I think the most memorable one for me from my time at Marquette was Junior Cadougan's buzzer-beater to tie UConn.

I think that was the same season as  Vander's shot against Davidson, but that wasn't the same because I was watching on TV instead of in the arena.

Doc's shot was like 3/8 court.....Not half court......But he literally was sideways falling out of bounds....It was a major prayer.....

He was just a few feet from Raymond's seat on the bench.....I was in the first row behind Raymonds.....

What is funny.....We had a direct line of the shot.....And after it left his hand.....You totally could see it was "distinctly" left of the hoop.....So there was no expectation of it going it......

Perfect bank.....I mean drilled.....Swish.....

Hank was standing and falls back into his chair....Stunned.....

The players went after Rivers.....We hurdled the chairs on the bench and were jumping around on the court like fools until the whole student section joined us.....Only like 3 isles from behind the basket for them to get there.....Took a bit of time.....

You got to realize.....Down by 1....To win by 1.....There was no second chance......No 3 point line back then.....

Totally agree. Incredible full court heave and JW hit at the buzzer. No National Championship without that shot going in. Absolute pandemonium on campus after that shot went in.

Is there video of it?  I don't think so but not sure.  And it was a tad short of half court; your description is spot on.

That's the one that gets remembered, but in the conference opener, Junior had the three to force OT that I think had the higher degree of difficulty.  Both huge, both needed to win the conference, take your pick.

That a typical Doc outside shot back in the day. Not many that left his hand looked like it was going in. He was a very good MU player, but outside shooting was not his strength. He should have tried more falling out of bounds shots during his days at MU.
