Just re-watched both technicals, on K-State, and later on Hauser.

Both calls by the refs were TERRIBLE.  Both kids reacted with very short "WHAT???" with quick walking away .. Both got preposterous Technicals.   4 fouls, none of them should have been called.  Turrible.

If Wojo didnt say something to his boys in the huddle about reacting to foul calls after the T on KSU, then he screwed up.  I was waiting for the "makeup call" T on MU as soon as that happened.  Unfortunately for Sam, he does that every time hes called for a foul.

You are a generous grader. 🤣

I am giving him some credit for the BS foul and technical in the first half that undoubtedly influenced his overall performance. :)
Have some patience, FFS.

I think this is pretty spot-on.  Was it the same ref that called both?  If it wasn't, I could see the explanation given to Sam being something along the lines of "I didn't think it was a technical, but we have to be consistent, and your reaction was identical to the KSt players reaction so...".

Thanks

Well thank you for finally seeing the light.  Political signatures and comments have been the norm with you.  They dont make you seem smarter, just boorish.  Its kind of like arguing religion at a party, just a bad look.

Sacar was ahead of Cain last year.  No surprise that he is this year as well.  Bailey playing ahead of him is more of a surprise, but Bailey is bigger and just as athletic.  We will see how it plays out.

Bailey also plays better defense n is much more skilled.

He had MU credential laniards on. I thought for sure it was scripted.

Gotcha. From the Jumbotron it seemed like an MU employee who was ready to put on a show.

This was my impression, as well.

I don't think it was. People behind me said that guy was the husband of their kid's teacher (the were from IL). They were unsure if he even went to MU (she did). I'd say definitely not scripted.

I stand corrected. Well done by the fan.  Regardless, it was a great moment during a fun and much-needed win!

Now beat Bucky!

Does anyone know if that was a BEast crew, Big12 crew, or mixed bag? I'm not big on following refs but I think I would remember that Luckie guy.

And bring back that guy to lead the cheers!  He's Jump Around Guy 2.0.

I rewatched the game on FS1's streaming site last night and even the on-air guys were talking about him.

Quote from: TAMU Eagle on December 02, 2018, 09:14:46 AMJust because a player doesn't play doesn't mean he's in the coach's doghouse. We have a logjam at the three. The best players will earn time. Lately, Sacar, Bailey, Joe, Joey, and Ed have been playing better. That means they either get time at the three or push other players to the three, taking from Cain's minutes. It will only get more crowded when Elliott comes back.

We always knew Wojo would shorten his rotation at some point. Someone was always gonna end up at that back of the bench. Right now it looks like its going to be Cain. We'll see though, he could earn his way back.

The difference between Brendan and Jamal isn't that great.

Brendan has played a grand total of 16 more minutes than Jamal at this point in the season. That's just 2 minutes a game. Neither one is shooting well so far (Brendan at 35.5 EFG%, Jamal at 44.0%). But they're both contributing off the bench with good defense and rebounding (an area where Jamal clearly shines, leading the team in DR%). I expect they'll settle in and improve as everyone learns how to play together as a team.

For comparison, both Brendan and Jamal have seen more time on the court than Ed Morrow. I'd be surprised if Ed is averaging 11 mpg at the end of the season. We're only 8 games in. It's early.

Crews aren't conference specific for basketball.  (Unlike football.)

I'm not sure if the BE conference takes responsibility for booking referees for non-conference games or if it is the responsibility of the home team.

Can someone summarize what he actually did?  I remember the announcers talking about it, but no one has really actually described what happened.

After an egregious call the camera just so happened to go to this man who was mocking the ref unknowing that he is on the jumbo tron. When he realized he kept the charade going and the students started cheering for him. He was also sitting on the sideline, which is meaningful, because he then began to point to one student section baseline and they cheered and then he pointed to the opposite side and they cheered. He went back and forth 4 or 5 times and then prompted both sides to cheer. It was a fun timeout that kept the fans entertained and kept energy in the building through a timeout. It is what home court advantage is all about

I saw some comments on a KSU board that it was pretty standard from Jamie Luckie. I think it was a Big 12 crew, they seemed to know him well.

Possibly this has been addressed but are those Big East refs we had for the game?  It was absolutely terrible.

Mr. Sand-Knit

Refs dont work for a conference they are independent contracters.  Colleges use "assigners" that they contract to fill referees for their homegames.  These assigners use their "rolodex" to fill all the games.  Usually refs just wirk regions not conferences, ie the midwest.  May work a big ten in evanstan one night and a BE in milwaukee the next.  Etc.  That said the bigger games usually get the "better" refs and the bigger conferences pay more.  I have 3 friends that are D1 officials

I believe one of the refs was Jeff Anderson (shorter, African-American). Not sure how the conference affiliation (I'm almost certain these exist) works but he has reffed a ton of Big East games over the past few years. Anyways....he's always loved blowing the whistle - not sure if he called the techs.

Guys.

Conference affiliation doesn't exist for basketball refs.  It does for football refs, but as Sand-Knit says, basketball refs are all independent contractors.  The conferences may work with certain refs more than others, but they aren't legally affiliated with the conference in any manner.
