Quote from: The Sultan on June 24, 2026, 10:25:35 AMMan, I saw Simon at Summerfest about a decade ago and I thought he was pretty cranky and frail then. Have to admit I am surprised that he is still out there.

I love Paul Simon.   Have always thought, while Graceland is a masterpiece and deserving of all praise, his next album The Rhythm of the Saints is absolutely fantastic and a bit unfairly overshadowed by the magnitude of its predecessor.

That being said, he's 5'2 and even in his youth was probably 110 lbs soaking wet so appearing frail, especially as he ages, isn't too difficult of of a task.  Everyone Ive talked to that has seen him on the high side of 70 has said he sounded very good (within reason, not comparing to him in S&G), so credit to him for that.  The list of artists who continue touring into old age that sound pretty terrible is quite long.

To be fair, I saw him twice at Summerfest. The one in 2017 is what I am referencing about. I think the other was back in 2006, and he was fantastic. Full of energy. Of course he was twenty years younger.

The only problem was his encore was some new song no one had heard while he left "Late in the Evening" just sitting there.

I saw Paul Simon at the Concert in The Park, Central Park, New York.  It was a fantastic show.  I love re-listening to the concert.  A very fun show.

The good one in the early 80's?

Paul Simon is diminutive btw.

Yeah, everyone has their faults. He at least makes up for it.

a lot of mention of Noah Kahan earlier in this thread. Has anyone seen him on this tour? My niece saw him in Cincy the other night and apparently was bawling her eyes out throughout the show. To me, his stuff doesn't seem like it would translate to stadiums but what do I know?

For those of you in MKE or MSP (or Detroit, Tower), Brian Fallon (The Gaslight Anthem) is doing a solo tour for his new album. Wish he were closer to me. His solo stuff is very different from his TGA stuff, and it's awesome, IMO. The three tracks he's released from his new album are excellent.

Seeing him at Wrigley in a couple weeks, will post my thoughts.

Just bought tickets to see the Old 97s in a few weeks. They've been great forever, and they always put on a hoppin' show.

I think 2/3 are solid. Still this album seems like a great departure from Local Honey which... wasn't great. Thinking of heading to the MKE show since the Chicago show a few weeks ago sold out instantly, Reggie's was too small for him IMO.

They just played at a historic bar a couple blocks from me and I'm so bummed I couldn't get a sitter.

Just saw the Lumineers at the famous coliseum in Verona, Italy, what a great show! Couldn't make Duran Duran work the next night, but I'm definitely going back sometime to see an opera there. Magical place.

A buddy just sent me a band called Cordovas, solid listen thus far.

Curious which one you're not feeling. Pearls was one that at first I wasn't into but after a few listens I really dug the lyrics.

It is much better than Local Honey. It reminds me of Painkillers, which I think is an incredible album start to finish.

Pearls I'm just not digging. Agree the lyrics are great just a weird rhythm and melody that's not hitting for me.

Better before sounds more like a gaslight song off the most recent album to me than something off painkillers but yeah hoping he at least puts an album on par with sleepwalkers which is hit or miss but has some damn good songs on it. If the album hits like painkillers I'll be ecstatic

Was fortunate enough to see Mellencamp kick off his tour last night.  His social conscience stuff hit hard.   His voice held up and he and his band were note perfect.   Still grabbing smokes during instrumental parts.  Not much between song conversation.

Nice symmetry for me.   I slept out to get seats to see him at the Mecca at the end of the Scarecrow tour.  Ended up second row center.

'Slept'.   Lol.   Played Frisbee in front of the Mecca at 5 am.

I "slept" outside the old arena to get Bucks playoff tickets many times.
