This.

The kid who plays the best will get the majority of minutes, especially in crunch time.

I know that for some kids starting matters, but for the team it really doesn't. A good coach can articulate that to kids - can tell them about the value of McHale, Vinnie Johnson, Havlicek, Livingston, all the guys who willingly came off the bench and helped their teams win championships.

IMHO, managing egos is at least as big a part of coaching today as X's and O's. Maybe even bigger.
[/quoteAnd don't forget the guy who essentially invented the position, the late, great Frank Ramsey.

Which helps explain your unabashed support of Derrick over Dawson!

Haha.  Fair.  Yet, there are exceptions to every rule.

Particularly when the player plays ~32 minutes per game for his Junior and Senior seasons and graduated with a career stats of 11 made 3-point shots, on 17% shooting, while shooting 42% from the field and 45% from the FT Line.

You guys. Come on. This can't be happening again.

I think Wojo has enough players where he is looking to have balance lineups. He can bring players from the bench and keep same intensity in offense and defense. Plus we don't know how lineups would have looked like with GE healthy.

Agreed, Bailey looks quite athletic, the block at the end of the UMBC game was one piece of evidence. However, he doesn't seem to have an overly-quick first step or explosive leaping ability, and his breakaway speed out on the break hasn't been overly impressive.

Granted, these are all very small sample sizes against below-par competition, so tough to draw a ton from anything to date.
I would characterize Bailey as a highly coordinated big man, but he is not a pogo stick like Jamal. Over time I see Brendan evolving into a 2 and creating a lot of match up probables for opponents. Eventually we want both Jamal and Bailey on the court at the same time.

To do that takes the Hausers OFF the court.

At one point during the the Bethune-Cookman game, I believe Brendan and Jamal were playing together in the same lineup. But I don't remember anything more specific than that.

Joey playing the 5 in both of the last two games also says that Joey can play the 5

This has happened so many times that it's become commonplace. Practically expected, even. Perhaps it's preordained? Are all MUScoop arguments predetermined by a higher power? Or are Scoopers the masters of our destinies? Fate versus free will, discuss.
