Does anyone like Shake Shack?  Going solely by my 12yr old review of "it's like a bad, but expensive, 5 Guys" and a resounding "meh" from him on the shake I assume it's trash.

On the northeast corner of Water and Buffalo in the Third Ward.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

I haven't had it in Wisconsin, but the Shake Shacks in New York (where it's originally from) are fantastic. Sometimes where makes a difference, the Culver's down here in Texas are crap compared to the ones back home. Shake shack is probably in my top 5 fast food joints.

Have only had it out in NYC.  I assume in Milwaukee it is the same.  The shakes are awful. The "cheese fries" are some fries with a piece of American cheese set over the top of them.  The burgers are decent, but insanely overpriced.  I'd much, much rather spend less money for an infinitely better (and bigger) burger at Oscar's Pub (which is just as fast service).

Just ate at the New Haven Shake Shack this past Saturday before a concert.

Disagree on the shakes and cheese fries. The shakes aren't earth shattering good but for a fast food shake are solid. Black and white is my favorite one. The cheese isn't American cheese its a nacho cheese and one of the better ones I have found at a fast food joint.

I must be thinking of a different fast food's cheese fries.  Regarding the shake, the first time I went I got just a standard chocolate shake and was so disappointed I decided I would never get another shake at Shake Shack again.  I got the lemonade next time and that was bad too.

Shake Shack is great, get the hell out with that Five Guys garbage.  Soggy burger, greasy freaking mess.  Totally disgusting.

Only had it once, but agree with your sentiments.

And Shake Shack sells beer and wine also which is a plus in a fast food restaurant.  Shackmeister Ale

This seems like an appropriate place to make this comment:  McDonalds ruined their shakes when they started to make them fancy with whipped cream.  Give me the old fashioned, completely artificial old school shake.

I know this isn't really fast food, but the Steak & Shake shakes are really good.

McDonald's shakes are way better now.  Just order no whipped cream.

Agreed on Steak & Shake.

I ate at one Shake Shack - in Vegas. It was nothing special. Burger was OK, shake was mediocre.

Five Guys ... terrible. Burgers are hockey pucks, fries are soggy.

I'd rather have a good greasy McD's quarter pounder than either, and better fries too.

Every few months, I'll have a really good burger out at a good (non-fast-food) restaurant, but I grill fantastic burgers at home so I rarely get one out. Same with steaks; why should I spend $50+ for a steak dinner when I can buy a great cut and grill it myself exactly how I want it for a fraction of that price?

Shake Shack on Michigan Ave in Chicago is phenomenal. The burgers literally melt in your mouth. Great fries and shakes to boot. Comp to 5 Guys? Get real.

Agree on burgers, though if they have some wacky toppings I will try them if they sound good. I can usually make a better burger at home.

I used to feel the same about steaks but there's a few places down here that have changed my mind. You may have superior skill than I do, but I have accepted that some of the steakhouses here can get steaks to a quality that I could never achieve.

That last paragraph is the most dad thing I've heard in quite awhile...still true, obviously.

Well, I am a dad. And back in the groovy '60s, I was "the most."

I like their frozen custard.  I don't eat a lot of fast (casual) food burgers these days but the burgers are pretty good. I like that they use quality, fresh, ingredients.

You may get made fun of for this remark (on now me too   ;D )but my wife is a foodie and friends with food critics.  This is exactly what food critics will tell you.  They may review streak places but it is just pandering.  They would prefer actual cooking when they go to restaurants.

Spotcheck Billy

There are a number of things we normally don't bother to order at restaurants because of the disappointment vs. making it at home: steaks, burgers and baby backs top the list.

MU82

I like to order stuff out that I don't get at home. My wife doesn't like seafood and we never have it at home, so I like to get that. Cajun food. Middle Eastern food. Greek food. Asian food. Stuff like that.

My favorite "fast casual" or sports bar foods are fish tacos and wings. Bad wings are always disappointing, but we have a few good wing places here and I love 'em!
