MU Improves in WSJ Rankings
« on: September 05, 2018, 06:45:23 PM »
MU moved up from 158 to 148 in the WSJ academic rankings. They do not differentiate between large and small schools. We are tied with Yeshiva and Seattle. Indiana is 145 and Iowa is 155.

Impossible. Our acceptance rate is too high and we let in too many affirmative action students.

Hope teal is not necessary. Always nice to see Marquette mentioned positively.

Speaking of rankings, SLU's loss could be our gain when USNWR 2019 rankings are published next week.  SLU is one of 8 schools that will be designated as unranked this year.  Even worse the SLU President's response said they underreported data which was an error.  US News was right, SLU wrong.  Embarrassing.  SLU alum comments funny below President's letter to SLU community.

I know TAMU was being sarcastic about MU's acceptance rate, at least that was how Porky interpreted the comment but in all seriousness, our 89% acceptance rate last year could negatively impact MU's USNWR ranking, despite SLU's change in status.  My recollection is that SLU was ranked very comparably if not the same as us last year so we'll see.   Here's to hoping our USNWR ranking doesn't slide as a result of MU's high acceptance rate when they're published next week.   MU's current enrollment strategy, while admittedly very efficient and effective in terms of increasing yield, is very risky from a reputation standpoint.

Thanks for posting Herman!  It's always great to see MU reflected positively  and quite a bit ahead of Fordham.  As a NYC area resident with many Fordham alums in the family, this makes Porky very happy!

Here is a breakdown of our WSJ ranking:

Outcomes                          96
Resources                        293
Engagement                      91
Environment (Diversity)    600

So those of you who think this kind of thing is important need to get out your wallets and contrary to Herman's earlier posts, help recruit underserved students.
Have some patience, FFS.

It's really not that risky.  An increasing number of students and parents don't pay much attention to the rankings.  Partially because every school spins rankings the way they want.

Or alternatively get some very smart foreign students.

Tearing down Lenny's and the 'Lanche has seriously impacted the environment.
