My experience was in big Phrama and I can honestly say I never experienced age discrimination. In fact at age 71 I still have recruiters asking if I would be interested in an opportunity.

Depends on what exactly you do for a living.

If you are in sales and have a crap ton of relationships and contacts, no one cares if you're 150.

I have been told that in certain tech jobs, age discrimination happens to people as young as 30.
Have some patience, FFS.

For years I was discriminated against when I tried to buy alcohol under the age of 21.

Despite the fact that I could handle my alcohol better than people twice my age they still wouldn't sell to me.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Years back, I worked for Epic in Verona. Some of you may know the company. They have been well-known for ageism, they pretty much only hire recent college grads. Years later, I still find that tech companies prefer younger candidates, but it depends on the role and the company.

I experience the opposite of age discrimination.  When I buy beer at the grocery store they card me even though I am quite obviously well into my 50s.  I suppose it all evens out because I never used to get carded when I was 17.  But common sense in application of day to day interactions has been lost in our litigious world.

Ha! Same here. I've been carded more since I hit 50 than I was all through high school.

Regarding work-related stuff, I haven't experienced it, but I'm fortunate to be in a small niche position that makes me very difficult to replace.

My daughters both have friends at places like Amazon and Google, and they are going in with the mindset that it will be harder keep their jobs for more than a few years than it was to land them in the first place.

To be fair, that is more a result of people being greedy.

Most states now mandate checking an ID of all individuals, where your license can be revoked (or fined) if you do not check.

The reason is that previous laws like carding everyone that looked under 30/35/40, failed as greedy business owners would rather have the income and sell to obvious minors, where the defense was, "that 12 year old clearly looked over 40".  With a law that was based on perception "looks under 40," there wasn't much one could do, so it was changed to everyone.

Sorry if I am hijacking the thread, but....What are the rules(guidelines) regarding romantic relationships with people that are younger than you? I have heard a seemingly  reasonable formula that was your age divided by two plus seven.

No rules between consenting adults.

This would work out well for my 92-year-old father-in-law!
