Examples then. Be sure to nail that 13 month coach with a  top 25, highly recruited player.

Ah.  You decided to add the top 25 criteria in there, which was oddly missing up until now.  ::)

But it turns out this is pretty easy.  In 2018 alone both Bryce Drew and Will Wade landed top 25 players outside their geographic area.  Granted they weren't there 13 months.  I believe the commitments were about 15 and 16 months after they were named.  But they were in the same stage of the recruiting cycle that Holtmann is in now - the summer after his first year at a new school.

It simply isn't that unheard of when you have experienced coaches new to a program and with playing time to offer.

Will Wade, hired last year by LSU, landed two 5-star players in the Class of 2018. One is from Orlando (696 miles from Baton Rouge), the other from Roselle, New Jersey (1,351 miles).
One committed to LSU six months after Wade was hired. The other waited 10 months.

Those were just as surprising, in my opinion

I'm actually honored as I think that's my first sultan eyeroll.

Recruit signs with school 400 (?) miles away, with a coach that has only been there for 13 months, and was never really predicted to go there until very late in the process. That better for you?

His high major recruitment started 13 months ago. So Holtmann has been there as long as he's had high-major programs in pursuit. So no, I don't see how it's relevant.

Your should really get on the Crystal Bowel predictions, not much gets past you.

So what, you want to start an investigation into whether it was a dirty recruitment because he didn't go to a school that was one stateline adjacent to Iowa? I really don't get why you're so bent out of shape about this.

Geez Louise, your cognizance level is really low.  You really did miss the point.  :D. Don't bother responding.

Well then spell out your brilliant point, because the idea that Carton going to school a couple states away being some kind of bizarre coup sounds pretty idiotic.

And I think the word you're looking for is cognition.

Can't believe anyone would ever want to leave Iowa.

That was the major pitch by the University of Iowa when my definitely not college athletic daughter visited Iowa.

Iowa didn't have a chance on this one. The young man obviously wanted a school with a strong NCAA history that could display his wares on national television deep into March. Ohio State offered that, plus the chance to start immediately. I have to believe Michigan would have been a better choice, but I'm not the one making the decision.

Of course, Marquette would have been better than either of them, but as I said, it isn't my decision.

Stop telling people what to do.

It was a misguided point made without an understanding of history or how college basketball works.  Now PTM and you want to keep digging your hole.  Odd hill to die on.

No top 25 recruits but Capel is already recruiting surprisingly well at Pitt after just a few months.

PITT has not signed any recruits for 2019 or 2020.  Chapel has offered many, many players, as well he should because his team roster is in disarray.  He has yet to close the deal on any of them and lets wait and see how he does with actually getting commitments.

You forgot to mention how challenging filling a 2018 roster @ PITT is this year and he brought in the best class PITT has had in years including one 4 star and possibly a 2nd yet to commit

Absolutely.  Pitt actually has two three stars and a four star committed,  The three stars have signed, the four star has not.  Problem is they had like 10 scholarships open and I believe they will have at least 7 freshmen on the roster.  They also have St. Johns transfer Malik Ellenson next year.  So, good start I guess, but the program is in shambles and Chapel has a severe uphill battle on his hands.

source?

Sort of a unique situation but Penny Hardaway at Memphis.

A decent comparison would probably be another head coach that, like Holtmann, had HC success at a previous stop. How did John Calipari do with his first class at Kentucky? 2008, I believe?

Well, no.  He was at VCU at the time.
