Marcus92

An overall look at Marquette's roster makeup over the past 4 seasons:

2015-16
10 available scholarship players
Average height: 6-6.0
Average weight: 205.0

2016-17
9 available scholarship players (not counting Traci Carter)
Average height: 6-4.8
Average weight: 207.8

2017-18
9 available scholarship players (not counting Haanif Cheatham)
Average height: 6-5.7
Average weight: 209.4

2018-19
12 available scholarship players
Average height: 6-6.4
Average weight: 211.3

Plenty of caveats here. Someone could transfer mid-season. Listed heights and weights can vary widely. And measurements alone don't equal strength. But from the eye test standpoint, Wojo will have his most versatile and Big East ready lineup yet, with a combination of both size and depth.

Can't wait for the season to start.

What is the correlation of avg team height & weight to being a good team (ie off & def eff)?

No Matta, eyner?

size can matter, but the weight? well,  it all depends on how ya use it, eh eh ehyn'a?  and you forgot to factor in length ;)

We haven't won a tournament game since 2013, we're coming off an NI f'n T.  Can we please, please, please stop talking about how deep we are, how Wojo will have a tough time managing our talent, etc.

Can we save those type post until we at least go 1-1 in Brooklyn?  please!

Well they are deep.  And Wojo may have some juggling to do if players don't separate themselves from one another early on.  But I think a rotation will develop and minutes will sort themselves out.

Height does matter.....not sure about weight

https://theathletic.com/141875/2017/10/31/kenpom-size-matters-even-when-its-just-an-inch-or-two/

Wow, quite prescient! Tennessee's season played out almost exactly as predicted.

"Last season the Volunteers' adjusted defensive efficiency was 97.5. Add an additional inch to everyone on the roster and that figure drops to 94.3; the Vols would have improved from 55th nationally to 24th. Give the squad another inch, and it would have jumped into the top 10."

Final Adjusted defensive efficiency: #6

"The benefits of increased height are more profound on defense, but they exist for the offense as well. Adding a couple of inches to the Volunteers last season would have turned their 73rd-ranked offense into a top 30 unit. Put it all together, and suddenly Tennessee is comfortably a top 20 team."

Final offensive efficiency: #36

Final combined rank: #13

Effing nailed it! This KenPom guy knows a thing or 2 about college hoops.

Love this last sentence:

"An extra inch or two can transform a bubble team into a title contender."

We were a bubble team with added skill + added size.
This kind of stuff plus Auburn's projections has me feeling great about this upcoming season.

My Top Ten Approved Discussion Points for this Off Season

1) The BBQ and the date of July 10th working around family vacations
2) The gall of MU to charge for Aisle seats
3) Is UMBC Elite?
4) When we win the NCAA next year will Trump invite us to the White House?
5) Did MUHilltopper get the Burger King on Port Rd closed to open the Arby's instead?
6) The new on campus Arena, what did Zilber Hall know and when did they know it
7) How will the FiServ Forum Lighting affect Marcus' bid to shoot 80% from 3
8) If you invested $100,000 in the summer of 2007 what would it be worth today
9) Has LeDaryll signed his LOI yet

Perhaps how they are teaching these taller, heavier players to play defense?

LeDaryll was a very nice addition. That said, your original post made more sense to me. At this time, I am not worried that Wojo has too much talent to manage. Actually, I am more worried that Wojo can coach up the talent. I am looking forward to the day that too much talent is on campus.

As a graduate of the 90's (3 NCAA's in 4 years not to brag) LeDaryll was our Jim Chones.

I would say we are concentrated, but not deep. We have a lot of players to use at the forward spots. 4 true guards, if you include Anim. Only one true point guard. Only one 6'10"player, who as far as I can remember has never won a jump ball.

As far as team height the roster is skewed with forwards. I suspect the normal roster has six guards. Replace two of our forwards with two 6'2" guards and our average height and weight drops. Of course, if needed Sam and Cain could play guard. However, I would not like to have to play a backcourt of Cain and Sam.
