Has anybody else listened to this show re Marquette the past couple episodes? It's mind blowing at how stupid these guys are and how much they hate the BE. Are they always like this? Is it just Dan Needles? He seems to be the one really driving the asinine comments

Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

They aren't looking at the details...I think they are doing the mind-numbed robot thing and taking what they see on popular Bracket sites...they might even be referencing info from pre-Creighton.

I just hope the committee does what I think they are supposed to do and look at the nitty gritty details....put the sheets next to each other. Not pay attention to fluff Brackets. Apply the fact that Seton Hall lost twice to MU and is in. Look at the losses to HIGH Q1 teams (maybe even 5 losses to No. 1 seeds!!).... Q3 losses not so bad...etc...etc...

And if they decide we don't get in..then so-be-it.  But don't do it like the lemming press.

>> correction...SH not 9-9...Butler is

Needles' comment "we don't actually know how good the big east is" using the reasoning that we've only played each other since the new year was so boneheaded I was just curious if this is something they're known for or if they're just hurt because UW's out
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

PS. I like Needles and the whole rain-man gig. But he can be wrong.

We R Final Four

When asked last week if MU could get in, the one toothed wonder said " no chance!"
Today he said " no signature wins, need to beat Nova."
So I guess there is a chance.

If Needles said that, he is an idiot. Don't know how good the BEast is? Two likely 1 seeds in a 10 team league, and he doesn't know? Makes one wonder if the guy knows anything.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Yeah, that would be a seriously stupid comment.

"then they'd be 0-7 against Butler Xavier and villanova, this is much like northwestern this year in the B1G tournament gotta beat michigan. Doesn't matter if you're 13-4 in the conference or whatever, there's questions about it. you haven't beaten anybody... they don't have a signature win, I'm sure they have some quadrant 1 wins but really beating creighton? Is creighton really that good of a team? Is seton hall that good of a team? is georgetown? we don't know!...[goes on rant about how november is meaningless] all they've been playing is teams in their own conference. We think the big east is as good as any other conference in the country so it's easy to mark that all up but I don't know how good providence is I don't know how butler is... I don't think they get there without a villanova win"

Yikes.

He's basically screaming "I haven't done any research and my opinion should not be taken seriously"

Dan Needles is an idiot who isn't qualified to talk about college basketball. He probably didn't even look at any results until this week. Moron douchenozzle.

Mr. Nielsen

I wrote Dan Needles and email in early February. He basically told me to F off.

Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Mr. Nielsen

This was after his twitter rant with Brewcity77 on Feb 3rd

Mr. Needles,

Reading your uneducated tweeter rant on Saturday was painfully bad. If you don't think Marquette will be in the NCAA Tournament with a 9-9 or even 10-8 Big East record, lord I can't help you. Marquette is 10th in SOS. The Big East Conference is #1 in the RPI. To call Butler and Providence mediocre teams just shows how you don't follow the sport. Providence is 29th and Butler is 36st in the RPI. You do understand the committee has to pick 36 at large schools after the 32 automatic bids.

I would suggest to do some research. Jerry Palm on CBS and Joe Lunardi on ESPN might be a good start. Blocking people on twitter or calling a Milwaukee Firefighter to get a life is not a good look.

All the best, Matt.

Like I said in another thread earlier today, it's amazing these people get paid to talk / write about college basketball. They're just embarrassing themselves.

That said, I have no knowledge of Dan Needles other than piggybacking off Brew ripping him on Twitter for saying MU was toast weeks ago that got me blocked in 1 comment. But from what little I do know, he's an MU hating moron.

:Here is Needles email back to me.

When I need advice from you I will ask. I have been doing this job for over 30 years. I'm sure you are a big, big college basketball fan. I would suggest you get a job in that field. Or in journalism. Or something connected. Or maybe let the professionals do the job. I'm trying to think of the last time I told you how to do your job...hmm, never. I'm not qualified to do that.

You can disagree with my opinion...don't tread on trying to tell me how to do my job. I will put my knowledge of sports up against yours any day and will win, if you would like to put something on the line.

Also, I will block whoever the hell I want to. If they (and you) start to get personal, you will be blocked. I really don't care if I hurt your feelings...and the other guy, being a firefighter has nothing to do with it. If one of my friends took personal shots at me on Twitter, I would block him as well.

Oh, and by the way...if Marquette makes the tournament, I will be the first to put on Twitter that I was wrong. I grew up a Marquette fan, always want to local teams to do well. When they play like crap, that is also my job to point out. I am not a cheerleader, not paid for that. I am paid to put my personal opinions out there on Twitter and on radio. You can agree or disagree...I don't really care. You can put your personal opinions on Twitter as well...I don't follow you, and I'm not really interested.

However, if Marquette does not make the tournament, I expect you will put in BIG, BOLD LETTERS on Twitter that you were wrong, and quite rude as well. I doubt you will....

I don't think the point about not having a signature win is that far off base. I felt a lot better last year heading into selection sunday knowing we had that Nova win on the resume. We have a number of good, quality wins this year, but if we would have have one of the Xavier, Nova, or Purdue games go the other way, I'd be more comfortable.

Looking at our resume on the ESPN RPI breakdown highlights the "no signature win" outlook, with us being 0-6 against the top 25 teams but posting a strong 5-3 against the 26-50 teams. Compare that to the quadrant view, where we have 4-7 in Q1, that can give a better impression of how good our good wins are.

On the plus side, we still have a shot to get a signature win in the BET, so let's hope we get one on Thursday and remove all doubt.

If we beat X, Nova or Purdue, we wouldn't be on the bubble. Or course we'd all feel better. @Hall and @Creighton are very legit wins this season. Both teams are very very good. I am confident the committee knows this, even if national pundits or other loudmouths don't give the BE respect. There is no evidence whatsoever that the NCAA selection committee thinks anything other than very very highly of the Big East.

Yep being Rainman of sports trivia on Homer's show does not make him a great reporter.

Dan Needles is a good example of the local sportscaster that knows the Packers and not much else. His opinions are based on outdated media perceptions mixed with a cursory glance at the sports page. He essentially admitted that on Twitter before blocking me.

The irony of your post is quite amusing.

I had a boss once that would remind people that it's possible to be right in an argument without being condescending. I think that's pretty good advice.

I don't think I see the irony. Expecting one to live up to their proclamation is not being a dbag. Him proclaiming he'd expect a big bold tweet from nielson is on the other hand an example of being a dbag

Bringing up an old tweet or post in order to gloat about being right to a complete stranger online - not a d-bag move? I think most people (outside this board, of course) would find that to be petty and unnecessary. But hey, maybe I'm overestimating people.

Mr. Nielsen

Well, either way I won't be putting out a tweet, since I don't have a twitter account. I already smoke. I don't need two bad things for my health.  ;D
