We picked a bad time to play St. Johns
« on: February 07, 2018, 08:26:26 PM »
This past weekend they beat #4 Duke
Tonight they beat #1 Nova in Philly!

1-11 in the Big East ... but what a "1"!

All of a sudden the two wins penciled in against the Johnnies are no longer a given.

How worry should we be?

You've got to think a part of these upsets was just Duke and Nova looking past them. Right?

St. John's has played a lot of close games and found ways to lose at the end.   The last two, they figured out how to finish.   Personally, I am now worried about it.

Don’t we usually lose playing at St John’s?

This. I don't think anybody paid attention to them and just saw the 0.

They have played competitively all year.

This was always a tough game. Hasn't changed.

Nova was missing two guys. However, they always give us trouble.

I was watching this game as well on my other big screen. Eric Paschall was out with concussion.

If we don’t get the johnnies win on Saturday then you’ve got to steal one at creighton. Take 1 of those 2 and we still have a very realistic path, just no room for a slip up against gtown or depaul whatsoever

Coming into the year, I said they were the wackiest team to project that I can remember. Lots of talent. The surprise is that they lost all those BEast games to start the year. Much better team than that.

Hope they'll drop back down to earth Saturday though. Feels like a 50/50 game.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

Getting some breathing room tonight sure does help the rest of the way out.

Yes... unless Jimmy Fing Butler is playing...  sorry I’m too stupid to post the video

St. Johns has no bench.  Tonight they played six players and the reserve scored 2 points.  Against Duke, the reserves had 3 points.  Need to get them in any sort of foul trouble and they are dead.

But, they are a good defensive team especially with Owens.

Cut off the head of the snake, Ponds and should be ok.  He has been just unreal and will be a challenge.

I was more worried before they won these games. Now we know the team will be focused on the Johnnies.

For some reason I feel much better about our chances now. St. John's will be feeling the love all week - good time to strike.

It's a lot easier to fight off the letdown when you're playing #1 after the big upset. We'll see, but I like our chances.

Agree with this.

St. John's always worried me, especially the game there. But now we'll see if they have a letdown after 2 enormous wins (we went 1-4 last year right after beating Nova), and obviously Wojo shouldn't have to work hard to get his lads to take this opponent very, very seriously.

The team is in New Jersey now.  They play in NYC Saturday at 11AM.

Do you have to come home for 24 hours or can they stay out there?

Well apparently several players have flu like symptoms and Theo was out with the flu.  Hopefully we have a full roster on Saturday.  Get them some Tamiflu and hook up some IV's.

Maybe send Theo to cough on Ponds.

A little wake up call before we get to MSG could be a good thing. Since we're already out in their neck of the woods, I would imagine we'll be in NYC for the next few days leading up to the game, which should help cut down on some of the usual stresses and challenges of a road game. Any little bit helps at this point!

Porky was very very worried before they even played Duke, let alone Nova so not any more worried now.
