MU b-ball and DACA

When Marquette foolishly decided to get political and weigh in on the DACA issue I decided that it was time to end my annual contribution to MU and let others fit the fundraising bill.  When I did so it actually crossed my mind that it could cost me leverage when trying to attain NCAA tickets through MU should they make the tournament.  I guess I was the fool for thinking that this program could be a perennial tournament team. 

I know we are all disappointed in this season, but what really irks me is that the school is promoting the basketball as if it’s an elite program.  Here’s a little advice for the powers that be...you have to win games in order to be elite!!  Having a coach that played for Duke and was an assistant at Duke does not make you Duke.  I know this is what we were made to believe when Wojo was hired but anyone with an ounce of basketball knowledge knows that just because you played and worked with a legend doesn’t make you a legend. 

Another national MU day flop!  Not against Villanova or any other top 20 team.. we are talking Providence!!!

Here’s one thing to think about... we had greater success with Mike Deane as head coach than we are having now and our basketball budget is way beyond what is was back then. 

I’m sure I’ll get criticized for this post as we are not allowed to say anything bad...so I’ll end this on a high note.  At least we can all be proud of our President mike Lovell for running all those marathons!   Great job... we are all so proud of you!

One of my son's best friends is a Dreamer.  He was brought over when he was 4, graduated high school with a 3.4 GPA, member of the soccer team, and never got in trouble.  He was pretty much like every other teen-ager.

He wanted to go to college but he couldn't - he had no access to federal financial aid and would have had to pay out of state tuition at a state school.  He's now changing oil at a local garage.

So instead of reaping the benefits of a college educated individual making a positive impact to our community - someone who could eventually become a citizen and raise a family here, he's relegated to a life of living in the shadows and doing a job beneath his skill level.\

Jesus wept.  (And I mean Jesus of Nazareth - not "Hay-soos."  Although he'd be sad too.)

So AMEN to Marquette for doing what they can to support this community.  Maybe that's where I will direct my donation next year.

In fact I would give money to your dreamer friend for a one way ticket back and his three months rent back in what ever place his parents illegally came from.  If he is as good as you say he is , he will be finding his niche in society in no time.
