1) There should be no more concerns that Wojo will be leaving shortly for Duke.
2 M2N will not be leaving shortly for the NBA.
3) For the Rousey detractors he has only a few more games.
4) No one should be complaining about DePaul, St. John's or Georgetown. They are keeping us out of the gutter.
5) No need to second guess Wojo or worry about his seat temperature. The administration loves the guy for cleaning things up. It will take years before they will be concerned about winning.
6) Some day the defense will get better. Just depends on how long you are willing to wait.
7) Wojo can save his voice. There is no point in shouting continuously if no one listens or the advise is simply wrong.
8) And remember above all respect the process.

Now there are some things we can do to cope during the coming years while MU sorts things out.

1) Turn the volume off on the TV while watching games. Bad enough to see it but listening to the announcers it is just too much to bare.
2) Be realistic and set your expections lower. Any win against any team is an accomplishment.
3) Concerning the tournament see 2 above.
4) Concerning our defense again see 2 above.
5) Believe in miracles.
6) Broaden your horizons. There is more to life than MU basketball.
7) Remember these young men still play much better than just about all of us. They deserve our respect. It is much harder to lose than to win. They will learn from this experience.

Cain and Elliot continue to show glimpses.    Get 15 lbs of muscle on each and get Elliot's hand healed.   (BTW, IMO if Duane and Haanif had stayed, I suspect Elliot would have red-shirted with that thumb)

Sam is playing on one leg.   He will heal
In another thread prior to last night's game, it was documented that MU's defense was above average when either Rowsey or Howard were off the floor and MU had average size on the floor.    That will be the norm next year.
Morrow is going to give MU an interior presence.  Picture him at the 4 with Sam at the 3 and Matt/Harry/Theo at the 5.    Actual size.

We have also shown some ability to play individual defense.  Sacar has shown he can play one on one at a BEast level. Glimpses have been there from Jamal and Greg.  For all his shortcomings, Matt isn't terrible when its just post D, pick and roll is another story.  If Markus is quick enough to get by his man on O, he should be able to stay with someone on D, yea he'll get posted up but you can't teach height.  Individual talent has shown to be there, its on Wojo to get them to play together

We started 4 sophomores last night and a senior that everyone wants to run out of town so there is hope.  Furthermore our bench guys are all freshman.

Curious recruiting of Carlino, Wally, Henry and Katin led us to the point where even in year 4 we are super young.

Here's to next year.

What advice for us STHs? Stay in the Courtside Club all game (or whatever the club is they want me to spend $10,000 on for membership next year).

Some good points and I hope you are correct. However, until I see some solid results I will continue to manage my expectations. We also need a play making, passing point guard who can defend along with Morrow delivering. Sam is the best player on the team . He will excell at the 3. Above average D, however, will not be enough against the likes of V, X, B and C next year IMO.

1) First be thankful you have the $10,000 to throw around each year.
2) Recognize that money can not win games or more importantly give you health but it can make other lives better. For many that satisfaction is enough. I know we want MU to win, we all do but unless you want to make donations contingent on winning the administration's first priority is running a tight clean ship. I doubt you want that priority to change. Having said that it is very, very difficult to win today period. With a clean ship policy where do you think some of the countries top teams would be?  There are no easy answers but there is a direction and goal. Wojo meets half the objectives. Can he win is unknown but they will give him more rope. Meanwhile you need to decide why you give. It is your money. Do what you think is best. I have no right to give you advise or judge your very personal decision.

If I had read one or two of these in isolation, I would have just assumed you were being sarcastic or trolling. Given that some of these headscratchers are thrown in with reasonable points, I have to think you believe all these things. And that is sad.

Lower expectations? Any win is a accomplishment? Miracles can happen?

I expect Marquette to compete and win. Period. I think most fans do as well. Sure, there's a learning curve for Wojo and the freshmen, but to view any win as an accomplishment, essentially expecting to lose all games, is crazy. We are not DePaul. Wojo is not new to this game. Our players are not low-tier recruits.

Have some pride in the program. Look at the banner in the rafters of our gym. We have a national title to our name. We have NBA All Stars as alums. We are a national name come March. We should expect to win. To miss the tourney this year will be a bad thing. There's no sugarcoating it.

I find this one odd. These players deserve our respect because they are better players than scoopers? Ok.
If some of us were/are better players, then no respect for the current players?
Strange logic.
Also, It is much EASIER to lose than to win. All you need to do to ensure that this is the case is to continue to throw the ball to a spot on the floor where no one is standing, and the ball is turnovered to the opposing team. If you do that, you will very easily lose. It's that easy.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I was actually being a bit of a smart ass but this was a nice reminder.  I was just talking to a friend about why I love going to games.

1) I always bring a different family member and friend.  They always appreciate the request.
2) Besides Facebook, this is a nice way to catch up.  On the ride up and pre/post game.
3) I also have extended family members and friends who are STH.  I get to see them at half over beers.
4) I have met a lot of great MU fans and employees over the years.
5)  I enjoy the game strategy and stats.  This was lit by Rick Majerus.  Thus, I like talking about it on Scoop or CS.  The detail and nuance of that genius was incredible.
6) I am very thoughtful on my gifts.  The Blue & Gold Fund in particular is a favorite.  Not because of points but because of scholarships for non-revenue sports.  Unlike a lot of charities, you get to see the results of your donation.  Both on and off:  The strive for excellence, giving first-generation kids a chance. Marquette is a special place.
7) In reality, the stinker yesterday doesn't really bother me outside of the moment.  I stayed to the bitter end to support the team.  It is when they need it most.

Go MU!

Go MU!

I was going to quit basketball and chicken tacos after yesterday's horrific loss and after reading some of the post-game posts here on muscoop which were even more horrific.

Then I read your exchange with Class71 and my faith in humanity, Marquette, and chicken tacos is restored.

If only all of MU Scoop could be this thoughtful and gracious. Well done, sirs and/or madams. You have saved chicken tacos for me. For that I will be eternally grateful.

The point is most folks that are complaining about these young men have often accomplished  very little. Just making it to a Division I team is more than most on this web page. If you have accomplished more in life that is great but then you will appreciate the sacrifice that is made to succeed by even a team that does not reach your expectation. The point is if they gave their all they deserve our respect.

I am not talking about the effort to lose a game. I think that is obvious. What I am saying is a loss is obvously more painful or more difficult than winning. Only those who try and fall short fully appreciate the pain of failure. The more successful a person is, the higher the expectation the greater the pain.  These young men understand that feeling. They are on a national stage. Their friends, families and millions of strangers saw their failure. Fortunately for most people our failures are largely hidden from view and often we blame someone else for our failures. Should we not respect those who take on a hugh challenge, try their best and fail?

Last, someone asked if I saw the banner in the rafters. The answer is yes. I also knew the coach and some of the players that put that banner up their. There was plenty of pain along the way to put that banner there even though they did not have to read blogs like this. I am proud of Marquette and it's history but let's not destroy some young men in the process.

I am positive because last night was such an incredible suck-fest that I have to believe it was an outlier.  I would rather believe it was a hallucination, a drunken mirage or even a peyote induced vision,  but after copious checking, I do believe that game actually happened, that I was there for 35 minutes of it, and that it was as bad as I remember--so I have not lost my mind. (Another positive, right?)

God I hate this site after Marquette loses.  These are two of the most asinine comments I've read in this post-Butler cesspool.  It will take YEARS for the administration to care about winning???  What are you smoking?  I'm sure they're happy with the difference in program between Buzz and Wojo, who isn't, but to honestly think they're simply content with a better culture and don't give a crap about on-court success is absolutely ridiculous.  I'm half-expecting you to come out and say this was said in jest.

As for your second statement: "set your expectations lower"?? "ANY win against ANY team is an accomplishment"??  Get out of here with that and quit acting like we're being given a favor even playing basketball games.  We played like crap and got embarrassed one game, big deal.  This same "woe is me, I'm just happy to lace 'em up and play hoops" team you take such pity on took the best team in the country to the absolute wire 3 days prior.  So please quit Chicken Little'ing and projecting your sky-is-falling narratives on the rest of us.

It was definitely a discouraging night, since I thought the guys would respond and have a good showing with our backs against the wall, but they laid an egg.  I'm of the same mindset as connie where I really think it was an outlier performance from the guys.  Where Seton Hall probably shows up in our "3 games where you play out of your head" portion of the schedule, last night was certainly of the "3 games you just don't have it" portion.  The concerns I do have leaving the BC last night were thinking Sam Hauser is truly more hurt than he's leading on and that Cain and Elliot may be hitting the dreaded freshman wall.  Now if we have a similar showing against Providence on NMD, then I may change my tune, but while last night sucked it's by no means a death sentence for this team.

muwarrior69

I think they'll exceed my 5-13 conference record prediction. All hyperbole aside, I did not have high expectations this year and there is still some basketball to play this year so maybe they'll surprise me yet.
