After receiving 4 votes in the AP poll last week, Georgetown received 2 votes in the Coaches poll this week.

This Georgetown:

Rk   Opponent   Result
325   Jacksonville   W, 73-57
301   Mount St. Mary's   W, 102-68
345   Maryland Eastern Shore   W, 83-57
220   Richmond   W, 82-76
335   Maine   W, 76-55
346   Coppin St.   W, 76-60

Name and record.    Some voters don't take the time to look at the opponents.    Probably smart on Ewing's part.   Eventually, either they are better than expected or they will get exposed.

Beating DePaul twice then catching two other teams off their game in D.C. would be a good Big East outcome for them. I hope we're not one of those other two.

Yep.  The only things the polls are good for is getting more highlights on ESPN if you reach the top 25.

That maybe the worst schedule in the country for a name school.  2 guys have no clue.  Fans must hate paying for all those buy games,  Wow.

Actually, they only got one vote in the AP poll last week -- 22nd place by the writer from the Roanoke Times.  Apparently someone got through to him and he omitted them this week.  I'm guessing they also only gone one vote this week -- 24th place from someone which would account for the two points.

Obviously, these votes are ridiculous.  But at least there is probably only one person who is that delusional, not two.  At least one each week.

There have been some reports that it's a historically bad schedule for anyone -- not just a name school.

I spoke to my daughter on Saturday when she was on her way to the game.  She was very excited with how things were going and said, "I hope we make the tournament."  I sighed, and had to let her down easy and tell her to not get her hopes up.  She doesn't have much experience with college basketball... obviously.  She'll learn.  At least her first month of college basketball games will have some happy memories (maybe subsequent years, too).  I suspect that will come crashing down when they play Syracuse on Saturday.

Make that wager with her on the MU-Georgetown games now - before she wises up.
Have some patience, FFS.

Govan and Derrickson are both very good big men.

I wouldn't be shocked to see them win 5-6 games in the BE. That being said, I have watched maybe 10 minutes of Georgetown play this year.

The Syracuse matchup will be their first actual test - they're rated #57.

Yeah, I probably should have done that.  Missed opportunity.

I just told her that she, of all people, should understand how much things can change when moving from the non-conference to the Big East season. She "got" it right away.

Actually they were talking about Georgetown on FOX.....Not the worst schedule in Division 1 basketball pre-league.....It is the 2nd worst......Statistically......

How dare they not go for the absolute worst......I guess you have to pay up on some of those "buy" games to get the worst of the worst.....

Patrick Ewing is going to get "toasted" as an in-game coach......I hope he has hired some kind on in-game assistant with major experience......

I figure Gtown should win 4 to 6 in-league......

That is accounting for a bad game by a couple of teams and DePaul......

i'm curious as to why you feel this way.  i've watched a few of their games...haven't had that take at all.  my concern with ewing is that so many nba teams passed on him when so many other former players were getting jobs that it meant something.  other than that, how would one make the assumption that he'll get toasted in-game given what you've seen thus far?  it's been impossible for me to tell given the talent they have played...but they haven't looked like a poorly coached team to me.  they are short on talent w/ experience.

Its the 2nd worst schedule for a high major in modern history (since KP started tracking it in 2001 I think). Baylor in like 2006 had a worse schedule.

I wish DePaul would take the same approach Georgetown is. Wins are better than losses.

Ah, the Purnell-era Clemson way.

Paradoxically, you pretty much wave the white flag regarding a shot at the NCAA Tourney with that non-con schedule. I'd say the have to get at least 11 wins in the Big East this year to get in.

Marquette is #53, Georgia is #71 and Georgetown is...wait for it...#93.

Mr. Sand-Knit

Not sure why anyone would rip Patrick Ewing on coaching.  The guy played for a legend in college, numerous really good coaches during a long nba career and then 15 years as an nba assistant.  His resume takes a back seat to no ones
