I'm a long time poster/reader. My email was compromised so I couldn't get my temporary password so I had to make a new account.  No im not chicos, cheesy, etc.

I wanted to share a story from today. I was flying a big 10 athletic director today.  I went to meet him in the fbo and he struck up a conversation with me.  I told him I went to MU and then he decided to talk my ear off.

He gave me his opinion on MU's current direction and past.

Wojo:  great fit for MU,  he's very close with Steve and feels he's the perfect fit.  Wojo has told him a couple times that he feels privelaged to be the "keeper" of MU men's basketball.

Crean:  he's very close with tom and his family.  He said tom has said repeatedly that he wishes he didn't leave MU and is still very fond of MU and loves Marquette. He said tom stated that "the grass isn't always greener"

Buzz:  was a bad fit.  Didn't represent MU as Marquette should be represented.  He had a few successful seasons but wouldn't have been able to sustain success.  "There's a reason buzz wasn't at the 100 year MU celebration"

Overall he was very high on MU and thought wojo was a perfect fit.  I didn't ask this guy on his opinions, he just shared his thoughts with me.

Take from that what you will. Just thought I'd share.

Let the "crean sucks" comments start.

Thanks for the info, pilot!

I do find it interesting that a Big 10/12/whatever AD would have that much close, personal contact with MU's last 3 bball coaches. Though, I suppose he would have some insight on Crean being at IU after.

No problem!

I wish I had the scoop the daddy has, but unfortunately I'm not that connected.

If you and chick think about it, I'm sure you could figure out which AD it was.  ;)

There was a little hint of regret from Crean at the 100  year coaches talk.  And while I believe that Buzz coaches rings around Crean, it ultimately was not a good long term match.  Blame on both sides.

Crean sucks!!

He must be the second coming of John Wooden given this poster's track record.

From a coaching and personality standpoint, yes.  But he and admin were not in sync.

I think that analysis is right on. Crean needed to see what life was like at the top of the mountain.  Buzz was the right person when Crean left.  He kept intact the roster, and the team was very successful.  When it was time to leave, he left.  The transition to Wojo being successful has been longer than anyone wants, but definitely the right move.  The program is better off with the contributions of Crean, Buzz and Wojo.

Hahaha. So to summarize:

1) a vague story about talking to someone "high up"
2) a claim that Wojo is the savior and a Crean handjob to boot
3) Buzz is bad
4) A claimed "long time poster" that specifically isn't Chicos, sweartogod (but doesn't say who he is, even though we'd all recognize the long-time poster's name if he gave it)

No way this convo happened and we've seen this movie before. Hi Cheeks!

MU's currently slide into essentially irrelevancy, and the reason the drop was so sudden and so far was NOT Buzz. Many of you will blame him, but the problem was hiring Larry Williams and Fr. Pilarsz. Two of the worst decisions the University has ever made. I hope whoever was the "point man" behind those hires(I know entire BOT voted in favor) has trouble sleeping at night seeing  how those bad decisions have really hurt the BB program.

Those two never get hired, Buzz may still be here. That's where the entire problem was..NOT Buzz.

Buzz sucked his last year. Or are you part of the crowd that blames wojo for that? Buzz was bad at developing high school talent and let wayyyy too much shady stuff slide from minor recruiting violations to assault to gang rape. He had no loyalty to the school consistently played the "will I leave" card to milk the University dry for more money. Your acceptance of things is extremely disturbing

I don't want to rehash those accusations against Buzz but they're serious and I've never seen proof. In general I sense the university needs to change how it protects the young women who go there.

Buzz himself I credit for giving us some real highlights and success that many other programs rarely see. With hindsight though it's pretty obvious that he isn't the stable personality to lead MU b-ball for a decade or more.

Wojo, in comparison does seem to be that guy. My only misgiving is when K leaves, who will they pick among the stable of acolytes to replace?? Wojo makes his case very year ( not consciously but with success).
