One more Warriors/Golden Eagles thread (sorry)

As many of you know, I am now an assistant HS basketball coach in Charlotte. Yeah ... you're happy for me.

Anyway, last week at practice I mentioned that my alma mater Marquette was getting ready to open our season and the head coach said: "I didn't know you went to Marquette. Cool. The Golden Eagles. Nice."

We chatted about them for a minute and I said: "You know, we weren't always the Golden Eagles. We were the Warriors until the early-90s."

And he said: "Get out! Really? I didn't know that."

He's 31 years old. "Golden Eagles" is all he and millions of others like him have heard - for decades now.

Not commenting if that's "good" or "bad." Just that it is.

End of anecdote. Carry on.

Honestly, I'm past the point of caring. We're the only significant Golden Eagles in college basketball, so I guess that's fine. Would be better with no nickname, just Marquette, but that doesn't seem to be coming either.
