Maui Roll Call, MU-Related Events & What Every Haole Should Know
« on: November 13, 2017, 11:13:38 AM »
Most of this already posted in the "Maui 2017" Superbar thread; however, I'm summarizing into one spot here for quick reference (read: so Benny doesn't have to fumble through all of his emails to remind himself where to be).

Before it's wheels up, a quick sum-up for all my fellow MU Haoles headed to the island...

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Saturday
adidas Hoops Clinic [children 3rd-8th grades] 2:00 pm
!!!! This is listed on the Tournament's website under Tournament Activities, but no additional information (location, cost, registration, etc.) is given.  I will update if/when I learn more.

Sunday
5K Run & Kids' 1-Mile Run 7:30 am @ Maui Grill Kaanapali *
 - Kids' run begins at 8:00 am
Maui Jim Golf Classic 8:30 am @ Ka’anapali Golf Course
 - Sponsored by Maui Invitational; More Info/Register Here
Mass 10:30 am @ Hyatt Regency *
Maui Brewing Company Tour 3:15 pm @ MBC Kihei

Evening w/ Coaches Banquet[/url] 7:00 pm @ Hyatt Regency, Napili Gardens

Monday

Post-Game Happy Hour immediately following game @ Hyatt (Umalu Bar) *
Blue & Gold Luau 5:00pm at Hyatt (Halona Kai Lawn) *

Tuesday

Post-Game Happy Hour immediately following game @ Hyatt (Umalu Bar) *

Wednesday
MU vs. TBD @ LCC
Post-Game Happy Hour immediately following game @ Hyatt (Umalu Bar) *

* Sponsored/Co-Sponsored by MU; Register via MUConnect

PLEASE NOTE:
- As far as I can tell, (unlike 2012) there is no Thursday luau included in the vacation package this year.  If someone who has purchased the travel package can confirm either way, it would be appreciated.

MAUI BREWING COMPANY TOUR - Benny has reserved the 3:15p tour on Sunday at Maui Brewing Company for MU alums, fans, faithful, well-wishers, or anyone else provided they aren't wearing Domer gear.  RSVP to Benny via PM.... tour is limited to a maximum of 16 people, no children under 10 are allowed (even if carried), and minors must be accompanied by an adult.  There is no cost for the tour; however if you feel so inclined, a donation to Blue & Gold would be encouraged in lieu.  Tour is at the Kihei Tasting Room (605 Lipoa Pkwy, Kihei, Maui, HI) - approx. 25 miles from the Hyatt Regency - so you will need a car or Uber... for those relying on public/tournament transportation, I should have space in my minivan for 4 additional people (provided Avis doesn't screw me over on my reservation).  See MBC website for add'l information about the brewery/tour.  There will be a food truck on-site (Big Beach BBQ) for those maybe wanting to grab lunch before/after the tour.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I'll be at the games along with three others in my family. We'll be going to the post game happy hours.

Can't wait to get to some warmer weather and no snow!

The Mass is sponsored by MU?  Are they shooting t-shirts out of a cannon during the homily?  ;D

I'll be there for the games.  May stop by a happy hour or two.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Got to love those early morning happy hours!

It's going to be quite a shock to go from a 10:30a happy hour on Tuesday into a 7:30p happy hour on Wednesday (see what I did there?)

Of course, every MU alum knows proper pacing of happy hours is critical... which is why I'm adding happy hours Tuesday evening & Wednesday morning (special thanks to Costco's wine department).

Additionally -- If anyone is interested in a bottom fishing charter on Friday or Saturday, send me a PM.  Even if there isn't enough interest to charter a boat on our own, at the very least (the way I see it is) every seat on the boat taken by an MU fan is one less seat potentially taken by an insufferable fan of another insufferable school.

Just for kicks, I was looking specifically at Aloha Blue Charters, which is run out of Maalaea Harbor (10 miles from Lahaina... you'll drive right past it on the way from the airport, unless you're taking the fun route) with charters at 7am and 1pm.  Although, admittedly, I know nothing about them other than what I've read on the interwebs, i.e. open to other suggestions (or if you have space on your already-reserved boat).

I’ll be there at all 3 games. I’ll try to make it to one of the happy hours but will be bringing the kids to most games so that might be tough.

We rented a house in Kihei so Maui brewing is a must, but, due to the kids, probably not making the group tour.

Anyone else on the Sat morning flight out of O’Hare?  If so, let’s get a “we are” chant going on the way out...

I take it all back... Indianapolis has nothing on the greatest locale for a basketball tournament.

My choice:  Take a creepy, scooparozzi pix of Jay or eat my $8 Lappart's ice cream cone...

Sun setting over Lanai and its raining over Molokai. No Domer sightings yet so paradise still permeates the Valley Isle.  Can't wait to run in to a drunk Mrs. Marshall.

Meh.  Ululani’s is where it’s at.

Seen quite a lot of Shockers fans so far.  Goes to show what a couple decent seasons will do for a prorgan.

Ululani's Shave Ice definitely the best.  I like the old Kihei location.

As to the Shockers, me thinks their fans will be the equivalent of the Couch Burners from the OBE. Call it a hunch...

PS....You do not want to take one of these charters hung or still buzzed.....Especially if you have any sea sickness in the past.....Been there done that......It is pretty ugly.....
