I chuckled at this: "Build a culture of financial literacy and responsibility within athletics."

That's for the next five years. In the 10 year plan they will add financial accountability (ROI) ;>)

Seriously, there is a reference in there about creating a strategic reserve fund for each sport which is interesting, considering basketball drives the bus.  Certainly, LAX and WBB have a chance to be money makers in bigger, upgraded facilities.

Here is my take having worked with athletic departments for 25 years.  "Holy hell the coaches are spending every dime they have, and some they don't have."

Is learning how to play defense part of the strategic plan?

Right now we're just building a culture of defensive literacy.

I'd say la Crosse yes. But the wnba is completely subsidized by the NBA. I don't think marquette has much of a chance in profit at wbb

Common misconception. WBB at MU is one of the very few programs that does turn a profit already

Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

A lot may have changed in 7 years.  Just sayin'.
Have some patience, FFS.

True but I would be hard pressed to believe it's changed so drastically that we aren't roughly breaking even. Especially as the program is getting more fans and more tournament revenue now.

The "profit" is less than 30 grand.  That's basically break even. It wouldn't take much to swing into the red, or higher into the black for that matter.

If they have been profitable the past couple of seasons, they will be even more so this season.  There is some hype with this team and that will draw some fannies to the AL to watch them play.

GGGG

Developing reserve funds doesn't really have much to do with how "profitable" a sport is.
