Good luck newsie and other Warriors in PR.  Has to be nerve-racking to have to do this twice.

How do you handle a problem like Maria?

Traded texts with Newsie today.  He's about 100 ft above sea level. Safe from the surge.  Home is concrete construction, rated for winds 120-140 ish.  Biggest worry if it is a cat 4 with gust over 140.

He has access to his uncles generator and wine cellar.  He should ride it out in pretty good shape.

Under this circumstance, absolutely :-)

Forget the generator, wine is all you need.

News posted a short while ago on the NM thread (but of course!), and sounds as ready as he can be.

Sustained winds are currently at 160 mph.  Will land with winds in that vicinity.  Hope he's safe.

So this seemed to be a good place to post this in the hope that Newsy sees it.  Yesterday, jsglow jr. got orders to stand-by for immediate redeployment of his FEMA Corp team to PR from its current assignment in Key West aboard a Coast Guard cutter that currently serves as his team's operations base.  They sail tomorrow.  I know of other MU FEMA personnel that are heading there this weekend by air.  There's hope for a San Juan photo-op for the 'MU brigade', to be shared with the university.

Newsy, I can hook you and beautiful family up for this hoped for special moment if you can get there.  Bring your tattered flag as you collectively begin the rebuild. We ARE Marquette!

I texted Newsie yesterday.  No response yet.

We're now also trying to work in Butch Lee with the assistance of the Athletic Department to try to spur his fundraising.  Butch literally has to travel to some high point by car to get one bar and communicate with the outside world right now.

It's really, really tough down there folks.

I just met a storm named Maria
And suddenly that name
Will never mean the same to me....

Have some patience, FFS.

Heard from Newsie today. Doing ok. Gas lines are 2-5 hours long and limited to $20 per purchase. Food's available, but 10 people at a time in stores.  Everything takes a lot of time.

Water system uses a lot of electrical pumps, so.....

Jones Act got lifted so that might help with fuel.  One of the things that I heard is that there simply aren't many working trucks left.  jsglow jr. at sea as we speak aboard the TS Empire State. Help is on the way Newsie.

I heard the production show on that boat sucks.

If possible, any additional contributions would definitely help.

Our gov't is threatening to pull FEMA and the military out of the country completely.

Or maybe just read the actual news.  They aren't going anywhere for a long time.  Forever literally means forever, which they won't be there forever, but they will be there for a long, long, long time.  Stop the spin.

All that article says is FEMA can stay there a long time. Their ability to stay was never the dispute. The dispute was that the mentally ill leader of the country threatened to pull them in spite of their ability to stay.

Stop the spin Jamie. It's sad.

Well ... you know ... if Maria had been a "real catastrophe," our dear leader would be more committed to the cause.

Chicago seems safer at least, yah?
