I know several academic types.  They each have multiple closets dedicated to the spirit wear from each school they worked at.  Every time they show up at a new school, they know to go shopping.  Each always remembers where his/her paycheck comes from.

Ben has just received a significant promotion.  I'm confident he's absolutely thrilled to be covering Marquette basketball.  Moreover, I suspect that Matty has already clued him into scoop and that he's taken a glance.  Some might want to keep that in mind.

Well let's hope he is like a Homer True Badger.

Unless this boy is documented having the Marquette Special (with cheese and onions), followed with a shot of habanero Sonoran Salsa, he is not to be trusted.

Do you mean the type that the only time he mentions Marquette is when he is calling a game or when he has the Marquette trivia question on his show?

"I know Ben. He's a very close friend of mine, very very dear friend. And if I know Ben, he'll put his heart and soul into this. Ben eats, sleeps, poops, and drinks basketball and he will love covering Marquette! Trust me, I know him well and that's the bottom line."

-Stephen A. Smith, probably.

But honestly, welcome Ben, good luck! We can be harsh but we have confidence.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Now THIS makes sense.

I know some of us were skeptical of Ben Steele but I'm going to be honest. He is off to a great start replacing Matty V.

He is a MUST follow on twitter already with his daily #mubb questions for fans (today's is markus and Rowsey combined for 309 3pts last year, would you go Over or Under 360 this year?)

I really encourage everyone to check him out. He's really doing a great job.

I get what you're saying. But he's engaging with fans, keeping people interested and is keeping MU in people's minds.

So while yes I agree with you BeeJay, it's still solid on his part.

We overreacted when a domer was named AD, probably overreacting to a Badger being the beat writer.

Did we?  Larry Williams was an absolute freakin trainwreck and lasted 18 mos?  I understand what ur saying but that guys was a trainwreck n as of last note is no longer in the industry.

You have a point there. Bill Scholls is a huge improvement. Good thing he isn't a Domer. Oh wait...
Have some patience, FFS.

Honest question, would Larry have been a train wreck if Wojo was the coach vs Buzz?

Or Lovell was the president and not Pilarz? I don't think Larry was great, but I think he was better than we give him credit for. His PR could have used some work though.

GGGG

I think Larry Williams was over his head and had a moron for a boss in Scott Pilarz.  So everything was a trainwreck.

Williams is probably fine at a place like Portland or Akron.

Thanks for the suggestion, I started following him and his #mubb questions are interesting.  Today's was interesting: https://twitter.com/BenSteeleMJS/status/910913734499082240 - he makes a great point that the exterior defense is going to have to be effective without relying on TO's as much as last year.  Not a lot of replies but i'm surprised nobody pointed out that JJJ gambled too much and got burned.

Also, props and shame to Jay Bee on trying to indoctrinate him to Scoop (responding to expectations in Wojo's 4th year by pointing out you need to wait 5) and introducing him to Scoops less polished side (using #freeChicos).

I miss the last beat writer.  He was really good.  Way better than those other clowns like Rosiak, Hunt, etc.

Rosiak is not a clown. He and Velasquez are in the same class in terms of MU coverage. Great beat writers IMO. You must be thinking of Enlund. He was awful, as was Hunt. Steele certainly seems promising thus far.
