Galway Eagle

Was just thinking about this as I was playing Hurling the other day. What are the weirdest sports you've heard of or seen?

In Italian class we learned about a city that plays some crazy gladiator basketball game every year.

The Bubble Footbal World Cup (no in not joking) is in London next summer and I'm doing a media event this week for the Englan team qualifiers.

I watched Derrick Wilson attempt a jumpshot once

#1 injury in bubble soccer?  Not concussions, but broken legs.

A horribly unsafe activity that most people think is harmless.

How many sports are really "safe" I think the difference is bubble soccer claims to be and isn't.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

In high school gym class, we played speedball. No, we were not doing drugs.  It's kinda like soccer but you can use both your hands and feet.

There are a few different variations according to Wikipedia.  I actually didn't know the sport existed outside of my high school gym class until this thread prompted me to research it.  To my surprise, it was invented in the 1920s.  Less surprising: it was invented by a high school gym teacher.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

I learned about octopush at trivia night at the bar last week.  First time I ever missed a question in the sports category

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Skitch

I used to play a lot of jigglyball with the interns at work.

Benny B

Keeping in mind Benny's Rule of Sport, i.e. in order to be considered a sport, there must be at least one non-incidental physical motion of finesse or strength which is generally able to (though not always) be improved through conditioning and/or training and there must be at least one method to objectively determine a winner....

I would have to say beer pong is the weirdest sport I've seen.  For Christ's sake... put your balls away and just drink the damn beer.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.
