Just go to bed early on Friday and set your alarm.

I've already got a plan....go out, enjoy St Paddy's day, watch the game in a bar with a bunch of drunks and celebrate all night.  Then wake up (late) Saturday morning to watch the DVR version in detail and enjoy it again.  (Or erase the DVR without watching if all goes to hell).

The late time works for me.  I have Yale Rep Theater tickets for Assasins and I can't change.  Will be able to see the show and then enjoy some Guinness for the Marquette game.

I am a little surprised that Yale students can't properly spell the word "Assassins" .

This is going to take some "pacing" and planning on Friday for sure.  I'm taking the day off work and my original plan was to have a shot of Tullamore Dew and a Guinness starting around 10:00 am Eastern.

I may have to enjoy the early games -  take a nap and sober up a bit in the late afternoon - then get after it again Friday evening leading up to the MU game.

Luckily, my local bishop has also given us a dispensation on Friday and we can have a delicious corned beef sandwich if we choose to as well.

Should be a fun day!

I always thought this was dumb when bishops/cardinals do this.  Isn't the whole point of fasting on Friday to do a little bit of suffering in tribute to Jesus' suffering for us?

Yeah, it's asking too much to expect you to eat your corned beef on Thursday or Saturday...getting crucified pales in comparison.

On the other hand, I seriously doubt that the Holy Trinity has a huge tote board in the Heavenly Boardroom, marking "bad" the corned beef eaters and "good" the lobster bisque and shrimp scampi consumers.

I agree, but if you are going to make a rule, you ought to enforce it.

Time works great for me.  My son is coming home for Spring Break on Friday night, with an 8:45 ETA.  This gives me time to pick him up and then find a suitable location for us to watch the game.  Perfect!

About 15 years ago, I went to the annual banquet/auction for St. Joan of Arc parish in Indy, which happened to be on a Friday night during Lent.  Not sure if it was the parish events planner or the caterer who dropped the ball, but here we had a banquet hall with a couple hundred Catholics and the meal was your choice of beef or chicken.  No vegetarian entree, no fish, not even macaroni & cheese.  The priest stood up and gave dispensation and let us in on a little known canon secret that if an "inconvenient situation" arises, you can move your day of abstinence to another day.  So we all ate fish on Saturday instead.  Not really sure what constitutes an "inconvenient situation," but obviously others have been told similar things.

What I find ridiculous is when the Archbishop of Boston will (if he hasn't already) announce dispensation for Friday but only to the Boston archdiocese only to have the Bishop of Billings announce dispensation for everyone who hears his message an hour later.

This Irish guy openly hates corned beef and cabbage.  Fish will be fine.

Because corned beef is a purely Irish American thing. Can't blame him
