If MU can get 13,000 for today, we will finish the season at 13,417.  That is an increase over last year when Marquette finished 21st in the nation at 13,308.

Next year will be the last year of the Bradley Center and Milwaukeeans will want to see the not so old arena off to her retirement, plus a team returning the best three point shooter in the country as well as an overall team that is in the top 20 offensively. Throw in a NCAA berth (fingers crossed), attendance will also be on the upswing like the team itself.  The year after, new arena, the freshmen will be juniors, lights out!

Have some patience, FFS.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Impossible. I was told Wojo was de motivating everyone away from games.

Well, attendance will be up this year as today is close to a sell-out.

I love your positive attitude!

One minor nit: Will the last season of the Bradley Center really be a draw? It ain't no MECCA, my friend!

I think you've gotta look at the mix of games..

"attendance in year X vs. attendance in year Y" is a poor analysis.

Through first 8 BEast home games, attendance is DOWN.. 14,537 last season, 14,439 this year.

However... we had a poor showing for the final game last season - Georgetown at 8pm CT.. 12,957... so with today's expected paid 'crowd', should beat out last year.

Last year we had one more nonconf game at home than we did this year... and last year you had Iowa come to town.. compared to Becky this year.

I don't think it will to see the old gal off in the sunset. But I would not be surprised by an uptick with the potential incentives and benefits of season ticket holders going into the new building.

That makes more sense.

17,630 today.

Final avg attendance this year 13,689.

My sarcasm on the BC may have been lost, but the not-so-old arena was the attempt there.  Still, it has been around since the late 1980's, the last chance for people to attend a game there.  Mild increase for that reason, but much larger increases due to team for sure.

Huge benefit to getting in to the NCAAs .. it will stop the bleeding of season ticket holders quitting.

Likely not m(any) new STHs sold next season .. but this year will be the bottom.

Too lazy to look but compare the lowest attended non-con game this year vs. last year.

HoopsterBC

Having the Badgers in town this year makes a big difference and having a Saturday night game helps, they might of had one last year as well, not sure.  Next year
without the Badgers how about a Top 20 team to replace them,  even Northwestern or Minny next year.

Lowest attendance last year, 11,618.
Lowest attendance this year, 11,305.

Someone could extrapolate to say the 313 tickets (not accounts) difference means season ticket contribution, which wouldn't be 100% accurate because we don't know single ticket purchases for each game each year, but it's a decent enough approach to get in the ballpark.

Avg season ticket account has more than 2 tickets, likely between 2 and 4.  Let's be conservatives and use 2.5 as a proxy.  That would mean roughly 125 accounts lost.

One should also remember the attendance for NCAA basketball Division I has been down nine straight years.  http://www.ncaa.org/championships/statistics/ncaa-mens-basketball-attendance

My guess is that we'll be back in the top 20.

The ticket packages were very successful.

I will tell you the last year of Auburn's arena a couple of years ago was a draw, and it was no Mecca or Bradley Center. They went from a few hundred fans a game to a few thousand - a dramatic increase!

Agreed. I did the $25 winter student package and then I did a mini game plan.
Next year I'll be moving up to season tickets coors light corner yeeeehaw

I still think that number is high.  There's probably a decent group of STHs (40-50ish, maybe more) that dropped their number of tickets and moved to a cheaper section to "wait out the bad".

mu_hilltopper

I think season package sharing has also increased.   We share ours with two other families now.

bork

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but take away Wisconsin and attendance is the same as last year.

source?

It will likely be offset by a home game with a Big Ten team in the Gavitt games next year, according to the season ticket renewal packet I got today.
