Mr. Sand-Knit

Wojo was pretty incredulous about it after the game and he knew it was the same for both teams.  But the fact that supposedly a high major basketball game was played on that court today is absolute fin BS!
Dr. Lovell needs to be on the horn with Val Ackerman tonight asking WTF was that?  that should never happen Again and there should be a league wide notice to Providence that if that ever happens again they should forfeit no qwestions asked.  That was fn bush league and no team should have to play in those conditions.  Providence fix ur fn court u fn bush leaguers!!
Political free board, plz leave your clever quips in your clever mind.

Just posted similar thoughts in another thread, but this game shouldn't have been played. Period.

MU and Wojo failed their players today. So, did Providence. Embarrassing for both schools, the league and the officials. Players should not be put in that position.

Also, the conference should fire Ed Corbett. As the lead official, he should have made the final call. It should not be up to the coaches. He knew the conditions were terrible, hence the rule change they made and the note he left the media passing questions onto the league office. In addition, Commissioner Val, MU's AD and Providence's AD should both publicly and privately apologize to the players.

Agreed.  The rules of basketball can't be arbitrarily changed in the middle of a game.   This was a joke.  I'm disappointed we lost, but grateful no one got hurt.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Was definitely an embarrassment. Game should have been called.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Clam Crowder

My dad has been a PC season ticket holder for 30+ years-I was fuming during the game and he said he had never seen the court affected by the ice like that. It was 70 degrees outside and Matty V said it was very warm in the building to start the game. That led to the conditions on the court. Should have had the AC cranking...should have thought ahead as the facilities manager....Absolutely should have been called.

One thing that caught me...4-5 more slides by PC than us...All in pretty convenient situations IMO

MU B2002

Not that it matters at this point, but on the play where Rowsey dove for the ball and slid like 20 feet...
Would that have been an over and back had he just let providence grab it?  I thought I remember a Providence player throwing a wild pass from the baseline area with no deflection.

Did you want Wojo to forfeit the game?

I believe so.  Unless someone tipped it and I missed it.  Loved the effort though.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

If it came down to that, yes.

Wojo knew, see his post-game comments, that the floor was dangerous. He has a responsibility to protect his guys.

Again, both schools are extremely lucky and fortunate that no one was hurt. And, I guarantee that if somebody did get hurt from slipping that the refs would have stopped play.

Absolutely.

Just trying to give myself a few more gray hairs prior to Wednesday.

What is the deal when we play Providence?  So many weird happenings:

  • Brothers (no pun intended) coming onto the floor
  • Flying bats. Still love that it went after Kadeem LaBatts
  • Super slippery floors

Can't wait for the next Bizzaro Installment of the rivalry.

There was also the fan sending Providence money after they missed FTs.

I agree, conditions were very hazardous and could have caused a severe injury, but thus late in the season, when do you make the game up?

Have the players stay an extra night and play first thing Sunday morning?

I wondered the same thing.  I would think they'd just postpone or delay the game until it was playable.  Probably wouldn't have been televised.  Man would that have been frustrating.

I'm sure Scoop would have been calm and level-headed had Wojo forfeited the game due to playing conditions.

The takes would have been scorching hot, that's for sure.

Have been wondering since Saturday, what coaches would have refused to play? I'm guessing most would have played, but I feel some (especially as the visiting team) would not. I cringe mentioning this, but would Buzz?

There wouldn't have been a forfeit.  If one coach was unwilling to play, I am sure the other would agree, and the game would have been rescheduled.

Why not, Sunday? Games are delayed or postponed due to weather all the time. It happened last year @St. Johns.

I agree. Calling a forfeit is a drastic measure. Again, it makes you wonder what MU was thinking on this.

I think 99% of the coaches play the game.

The Providence hockey team had a game Sunday afternoon.  Wasn't going to be rescheduled.

Yeah, you're most likely right.

But that illustrates the issue with allowing the coaches to decide.
