Thanks for the namecheck, '82.  I am one of the folks that does stay away from the board for a few days after a disappointing loss for a number of reasons.

First of all, I don't want to read all the vitriol, not only from the trolls and the newbies, but also from the same folks that after the last good win were posting dumb crap like "How high will our tournament seed be?" or "Will some other program woo Wojo away?"

Secondly, I know better than to express sadness and/or anger while the emotions are still raw and overwhelming the logical part of my brain.  I wish more folks would do that, both on this board and in general.

Thirdly, like every other one of my "loved ones"  (shout out to mujivitz   ), I know that occasionally they are going to disappoint me, but if they are truly trying to do their best, I am going respect the effort. Everyone already knows the team sucked, and I unlike many Scoopers, I am not going to claim that they would have won if I were calling the plays instead of Wojo.

Lastly, my personal happiness does not depend on the success of Marquette basketball.  It's a bonus if they win, and if they don't, it's "well, that sucks...let's move on and focus on something that is actually important."  I am not sure that is the case for every Scooper.

Very well articulated, chickadee, especially that last paragraph. I fall into that camp, too.

I sit corrected about you avoiding the site after disappointing losses. I usually do some reading but sometimes avoid commenting after such defeats.

This makes sense, GOO, and I agree with most of it.

My one nit is that I don't think most of "more steady knowledgeable posters" stay away after a loss because they don't want to deal with those on the extremes.

I consider brew, tower, Sultan, mu03eng, TAMU, Jae, chick, glow, rocky and many others (sorry if I didn't include you in my top-of-the-head list but you know who you are) to be very steady and knowledgeable folks who don't stay away. They keep trying to be reasonable and logical but sometimes get shouted out and called "slurpers" (or worse) if they simply use logic and reason.

No not clutter.  In fact I would argue this place does not have enough interest topics right now.  If you look at the front page their is really only 3 or 4 topics spread over 25 threads.  Read one thread and you can skip 10 others, they are all on the same topic saying the same thing over and over.

Rather, it is one of those topics, the threads by mainly newbies with the hysterical sky is falling, everyone sucks and, anyone that can spell Marquette must be fired rants that make this board unreadable.  They only show up in the midst of a losing streak.

Again it is the newbies that are hysterical, and flood this place unreadable undirected negative emotion after a loss.  It is not the regulars that are hysterical.

Please define "regular."

Do you simply mean someone who posts every day?  Or is a regular someone who visits every day but doesn't post?  Or how about someone who visits everyday, doesn't post, AND doesn't log in?  They are regulars too, right? 

I am a regular.  I come here everyday but most of the time I do not log in.  I stopped posting for several years and I don't usually post daily.  I am a regular though.

Definitely a lower ethical point for Scoop, because of vitriol directed at an athletically limited point guard giving his all, but I don't think the board as a whole was worse.

I'd rather have hijack attempts because there's a chance posters could rise above the fray (though because Scoop is Scoop, a nonzero one). Here, you have to wade through so much crap that it's just exhausting <insert political joke here>

Yes, Ners drove everyone crazy with his inability to let a single thread go without somehow bringing it back to the subject of DW vs. JD, but I will say he kept the focus on basketball ability.  Now we have posters, one in particular, who hurl personal insults as these kids from the safety of their keyboards, posters who would pee down their legs if they were ever face-to-face with the targets of their internet tough guy routines.

This board is totally unreadable.  Over-run with part-time posters that only show up when things get bad spewing garbage.

How do you regulars take this?  This crap is so unreadable one would go mad taking it seriously.

I  find the big time semi-pro posters rather boring and predictable.  The obsession with metrics and analitics are tiresome, basketball isn't brain surgery or rocket science.  Sorry for being so trite.

Agreed, the annonimity brings out the bully thugishness in some people, probably the same crowd driving around with road-rage.

Direct what?   Are they or are they not in charge?   Where does the buck stop?  Who is responsible for long term strategic planning?  The relative annonimity of the BOT is not unlike this blog or the road rage people. 

I have no ax to grind with them.  They have done a wonderful job managing the University.  However, their basketball savy leaves a lot to be desired, IMHO.
