Butler
« on: February 07, 2017, 10:00:25 PM »
1.  Butler did a great job of running MU off of the 3 point  line.
2.  In stretches, it looked like MU  could play defense.
3.  It was weird watching MU play a grinding game.
4.  I thought Butler's scoring in the first half was as much good shooting as it was poor defense.  For the most part.  A few lapses.
5.  Another double double for Luke.
6.  A shame he can't guard in space.
7.  Rowsey needs to quit committing dumb fouls.
8.  I wonder what the real reason is for Martin's absence in the first half.
9. Played good enough defense to win.  The shots just didn't fall.  Very odd for MU.
10.  The more composed, better defending, just plain better, team won tonight.  And it never felt like it would end differently.

Amen. But to posit that MU played decent D is truly iffy.

Yeah, watching Sam flail helplessly as 45 went by him that last time was kind of emblematic.

Lost to a better team.

Luke can't guard anyone with any shred of quickness, but I'll still take him on the court all game when he's playing like today. Can't go four straight possessions without a touch for him at the end. We're going to hurt without him next year.

Gotta make the bunnies.

I'm going to repeat this about 15 times in the next 24 hours...
We picked the wrong night to miss our 3's.
Rowsey 0-fer.... Reinhardt off.

Would have won with even an average rowsey game.

Disappointing loss, but one that isnt too surprising. On to the next one....I guess. Saturday might be very brutal. I think everyone will need to brace themselves for an ugly game. However, this team plays like a new team every game, so who knows.

The announcers called MU out repeatedly for defensive miscues.  Maybe it's just because they're so glaring when they happen.

crabass is a player.

our team is weak

another disappointing loss

after beating creighton and nova it would be pretty devastating to not make the tourney, unfortunately that is looking like a reality right now

This one hurts. Never really felt confident before or during the game.

Wining this one would have made our life much easier. 4-2 down the stretch is a tall task. Thankfully IMO 9-9 may actuallly work this year, but man, needed this one.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Three of Rowsey's fouls were soft and completely unnecessary. He took himself out of this one. Needlessly.

-Shots didn't fall because the majority of them were terrible.  Way too many, wtf's.......

-Martin hardly played in second half, but Charbacz just destroyed them inside

-In stretches, MU played great defense, only first nine minutes of second half, rest was terrible and not even close to winning.

Yes, Rowsey makes some really, really dumb fouls.  Needed him tonight and just didn't happen.

Man, Hauser got torched.

Other than that, decent game.

Holtmann is a really good coach. Very underrated. I know they had a week to prepare, but they were ready for MU's offense. Defended the perimeter very well

He's a complete liability on defense. Why is he in the game at the end?

Butler ran MU off the line and took the shooters out of rhythm.  They started rushing and not setting their feet.  Butler won the game with 3 point defense.

And who would you suggest be put in?  Only two guys weren't complete liabilities tonight and I wouldn't call them great.

Agree that Rowsey needs to eliminate the stupid fouls, could really have used him on the floor tonite.  With that said, duane, jjj, and rinehardt were really bad too.  Wojo needs to Make certain his grad transfers can play defense, Rinhardt has had flashes but is part of the problem defensively too often

Even if I agree with all the others, why "No heart"? Does playing poorly and often foolishly mean you lack heart? Did the Warriors quit after falling behind early? Did they stop playing hard before the final horn? What proof do you have that they lacked heart?

Attack the crappy defense, the poor decisions on offense, the dumb fouls by Rowsey, etc. But why impugn their integrity and desire?

The players need to learn how to drive to the hoop..can't rely on making every single 3 pointer. Defense was iffy but im feeling confident even after the loss. The players know what they have to do now, just need to finish off strong

Defense was much better. Yes, there were some blow bys and busted assignments, but also shot clock violations and desperation heaves to beat the buzzer.

Plain and simple, we missed shots we normally make. Just the two late missed threes from Howard and Reinhardt are usually makes.

I felt this was a coin flip game and it came up tails. Go get the Hoyas.

Going forward, I don't see this team winning either X game, nor at Prov or at GT. I se 9-9, no dance.

Look at the bubble. 9-9 makes the dance.

Having said that. I wish for 10-8.
But good lord all of a sudden 8-10 looks legit
