There was a mini-college reunion this weekend with graduates from '91 and '92.  Two or three of them semi-active here on this forum.   In our partying and memories the last three days we were down one.  She could not attend as she was dealing with the death of former Marquette coach, Sister Maria Pares, who passed away at the age of 75.  She is quoted in the article often, and is currently the president of the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA, and played for Pares at MU, later coached with Pares.

For the rest of you, especially fans of WBB, RIP Sister Pares.

Thats too bad, God speed Sister. Great article.

Always thought it was odd, yet also neat that we had a nun coaching us.
Had to be difficult to recruit, not that im not sure that she was a wonderful woman, just that it might be odd to be recruited by a nun for the non catholics
Political free board, plz leave your clever quips in your clever mind.

RIP Sr. Pares

Great to see all of you last weekend in Milwaukee at the mini reunion.  What a great trip.  Glad to see folks made it back to Florida, Calif, Colorado and Texas ok.  Go Warriors

Did I read correctly that she was coaching two schools at the same time? How did that work?

Can't say for sure, but my guess is that it worked because of one or more of these reasons:

1.Back in those days practice was probably a couple of hours a few times a week, and only during the season.  A coach had enough time to coach two teams.

2. Schools didn't allocate any money for women's sports.  You could save money by hiring a nun who was already coaching somewhere else.

3.It was just a bunch of girls. No one cared what they did.
Have some patience, FFS.

I actually thought it would have been neat if Sister Pares would have been coach at the same time as Al. Can you imagine the mileage He would have gotten out of that?
