Love the 1-3-1

The last five minutes of it, when Wojo sat Luke and went quicker.  It actually worked.

Party on team tonight, then back to business.  No letups, keep foot on the pedal, don't over look the Prov., St.Johns and Depauls.  Like KR said in interview, the Butler game made team more determined.

Wojo, quick call those important recruits........

Honestly I thought we got lucky with some of the misses they were having while we played in the 1-3-1.

They shot 17% (6-34) from 3, so yeah. But who cares? We just beat frackin' #1!

To Mr. Negative Luke who characterized he and JJJ as "marshmallow brains" often throughout the game....go look in the mirror and get S'more inspiration.

Luke was solid beyond a couple missed bunnies and fts.

Jjj was off...horrible turnover late with a soft pass but still solid on the dribble/drive.

Katlin was just awesome in the final minutes...just really awesome....he had found it here at MU.

Duane...l just love what this young man is all about,

Signature win wojo!.... in two years hopefully this will not be a court storm.'

Down 13 to #1 with 6:30 left. We overcome SIX missed free throws to win in regulation! All things considered, one of the most amazing comebacks of all time! So fun to be on the right side of it!

Put together enough stops late to limit them to 33 in the second half, when we've had games where the other team's offense looks like a layup line.  If you told me we'd score 74 and pick win or lose, I'd have bet the farm it's a loss.  If you told me we'd give up 72 and pick win or lose, I'd be willing to put up the silo we could pull it out.

We kept missing free throws, it seemed like they got every loose ball and we couldn't buy a defensive rebound.  I still can't figure out how we managed that comeback.  I never saw it coming.  What a great, great night!

Law of averages, baby. They shot 60% on 3's in the first matchup. They are at 39% for the season, so 17% seems about right!

Great win. So much fun.

Marquette wins that game easily if they shoot their average from the line.

If anyone had said Markus would score 0 points and foul out, and we'd go scoreless for over 5 1/2 minutes and beat Nova, I'd have said the person was crazy.

Ref F'ed up he gave the signal to start clock ahead of time

This.  Under a minute, the clock is controlled entirely from the floor, not the table.  Refs wear a box that detects the sound of the whistle (which stops the clock) and starts when the ref pushes a button.  Not sure if the whole system was malfunctioning last night or the ref just fu@ked up with the button. But if you were in the BMO during warmups, you may have heard a ref's whistle blowing several times... they were testing/calibrating the system, which usually isn't done that close to game time.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Wonder what the odds on that prop bet would be.

A Philly Nova guy and son sat next to us-
He said that he felt V played about their best first half of hoops of the season... but was concerned about the lack of PT for their bench going forward and how their top7 are showing signs of slowing down as a result.
Then when the comeback began with our zone(s) he was was surprised that V continued to settle for long jumpers vs running their offense to drive then/or kick.  Gave props to Wojo for forcing that with the zone, as V is a good outside shooting team but only when they move the ball like they did on the perimeter early in the game.

Denying that sort of activity seemed to frustrate V, resulting in a style of play late that they'd prefer not to settle for.

Seemed to help fuel our offense, as they couldn't press after made baskets and KR able to see the floor with his height well late.

Some nice adjustments by Wojo late, and an awesome response by the players to make those changes work.

Re the 1-3-1, this was absolutely key.  I will admit, I was getting really frustrated and was using choice words to blame the scheme from the upper deck, becauese we were getting smoked from the corners. But once Luke rotated out, the whole thing sped up, we were able to close on those corners, and the open threes from the corners turned to slightly contested threes from beyond the elbows. Made the difference in the game (though a bit surprised that Wright didn't put the red light on DiVincenzo about three shots earlier).

Hate to be a bit of a debbie downer, but I actually didn't like the 1-3-1. It worked in the sense that it forced Nova to shoot threes instead of driving. But it was giving them WIDE open threes all night. How we didn't get torched is beyond me. If nova had made 33% of their threes (6% below their season average) they would have won by double digits.

I'll take it as a sign that God was on our side last night. Take the win and run!

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.
