I think today was awesome.    I am over the moon with joy having taken down a top 10 team in their building.    I am starting this thread for the Debbie Downers to whine.      I'll start, trying to look at it from a coaching perspective.....
1.   Second half defense.    Ackk.     The announcers said that the coaches suspect that the difference in the defense from half to half is due to them being able to yell out adjustments when the defense is in front of the MU bench in the first half, but not in the second half.   What say you?
2.  Sam is consistently trying to draw a charge and failing.    Costing him 2 fouls a game.
3.   Dumb fouls by Rowsey and Howard.
4.   11 turnovers between HC, JjJ, and KR.   Tighten up the dumb.
5.   Rowsey versus a press.

Other than the defense, and maybe JjJ's turnovers,  everything else is fixable.

#1) I heard that too. Makes a ton of sense. Honestly hadn't thought of it that way. But the pattern holds true.

#2) Sam needs to toughen up on the blocking calls. He legit could have gotten minimum two charges today if he held his ground and didn't shuffle his feet. Thing is - that's my biggest beef with him and that says something. He'll learn, he's a stud.

Give me a break. And yet other teams can play defense away from their coach? It's not like this is NFL football and defenses change from play to play, Marquette is getting beat off the dribble constantly. Today it wasn't even pick and role. They just aren't good defenders.

And yet they seem to manage to play objectively better defense in the first half vs. the second.  This provides a possible explanation for that trend.  No one is using this as proof that they are good defenders, but rather trying to find reasons for why they are consistently worse defenders in the 2nd half.

*Duane struggled defensively-- several blow bys against him
*Markus' 3P form looked a little off
*Too many turnovers from getting caught in the air with no where to go

*Uhhhhh, Wojo's sweat stains didn't reveal a hidden picture of Al?

So you don't think there are certain people either on the bench or on the court (or both) who can help (particularly younger) players be in the right spot, and thus be better overall defenders, by being able to communicate reminders of the scouting report, etc.?

This happens in all of basketball. Take the Bucks, for example. 2 years ago they had one of the better defenses in the NBA. Last year they had one of the worst defenses in the NBA. The core of their team (Giannis, Jabari, Middleton) remained the same. What changed? Zaza and Dudley were gone. And neither of them are making an NBA All Defensive team anytime soon. But they knew the system and they helped the young Bucks immensely on the defensive end of the floor by getting everyone on the same page with their communication.

yup.  don't know if it's true or not...but either way it's on wojo.  wojo is getting beat after half-time adjustments...why that is doesn't really matter.  dumb team (which he recruited), inability to make half-time adjustments, inability to get his team to communicate on defense, etc...

that said...great win, vast majority of players improving, and the struggles down the stretch are an area of improvement that should be teachable and able to improve upon with confidence, experience, and breaking down tape.  they're playing hard.  nova will be a huge test.

Is it possible, players have one Ear for offense and the other for Defense?
