It's fair to criticize.  Holding leads has been an issue all year.  Why?  IMO, relying on freshmen and sophs to lead because the seniors have abdicated that responsibility.  The team quits doing what got it a lead and milks the clock.   And didnt naturally match the increased intensity and physicality of Seton Hall.   One more thing to work on.
I don't think anyone can fairly argue our end of game management needs serious improvement.  After screwing the pooch and getting our @ss handed to us I am going to go positive, and look at this as the learning experience our young players need*.

(I reserve the right to completely change course and call for heads on pikes the next time we lose a game I think we should win)

In credit to SH, they did hit some very big shots, and you can't control when a team is going to bank in a 3.  Certainly some things worked against MU.  Still, I was thrilled we got the victory.  The biggest issue, without question, to me is not being able to get a rebound on a missed free throw.  It happened twice late here... only once did it cost us, but twice still.  And it also cost us the last SH game.  Get those boards and both are easy W's.
Try to clean it up and go get DePaul this weekend!!  Warriors!

I complained prior to a win.

So you are satisfied with blowing leads as long as they occasionally end in wins?

Thank unnatural carnal knowledgeing god you don't coach

For as long as you guys base your self esteem upon the won loss record of Marquette basketball, you'll be frustrated.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Since they moved the blocks out, it makes for 4 defensive guys on the lane to contend with 2 offensive guys plus the shooter.
Needless to say, the defensive guys have the superior positions because of the assigned positions along the paint. If one of the further-from-the-basket defensive guys screens the shooter, it is a 3-on-2 deal, as for going after the ball. Obviously nothing is perfect, but I'd be interested in knowing how often the defense gets the board on a missed FT on a percentage basis ,and what our percentage has been vs. SHU (admittedly a good rebounding team). Anybody know where that kind of info is obtainable? Last night there were at least a couple of occasions when the shooter was allowed to get into the rebounding action, to our detriment.

Up 7 with less than a minute...doable.

The size and physicality of SHU bothered us all night.  We couldn't get a rebound and it is not for lack of effort.  Sometimes we tried extra hard and it usually resulted in a foul.  When you can't get a rebound, it makes it tough to close out games.

However, we are a great free throw shooting team and that helps tremendously.  After HC missed those 2 shots that would have iced it, we started sending Reinhardt to the line.  He's a bit less reliable as a ballhandler but was rock solid from the line in OT.  Personally I'd probably want Howard or Rowsey at the stripe to close out games.

This is a big win against a very good team.  Take and be glad that if we have to see Seton Hall again this year it will be in March in NYC.

What does any of that have to do with my self esteem?

Do you know what that word means?

And BTW the rest of the Big East better not sleep on the Hall. They almost seem better than last even without Whitehead. Definite tourney team IMO.
