You simply MUST win in regulation.  We have got to be better at end game situations.  We were very fortunate to come away with a victory.  A loss particularly on a blown 7 point lead after the other SH game would have been devastating.  What does this team have to be up in the last minute to be assured of a win, double figures, 20 ??
This is a good free throw shooting team.  But this time Haani misses both ends of a double bonus.  Katin throws up a 3 when he could have run 20 seconds off the clock and probably ended up at the free throw line.
You could see in OT Haani didn't want to be anywhere near the ball.  He's going to have to come through to get his end game confidence back
Got to figure it out.  If we're going to steal a couple of wins we'll have to close the door on a better team and probably on the road when we're fortunate enough to a 3-7 point lead

An OT win counts the same in the standings as a win in regulation.

Granted, going to overtime means the outcome is still in question. Winning in regulation means it's over. But every team has close games. Finding a way to earn the victory (which Marquette did tonight) is invaluable for players and coaches alike.

I'd rather be up 7 and win in overtime than be up 7 and have it end in regulation on a Carrington 3.

So you and PFsHeroes are complaining about a win.  i honestly believe if they had won in regulation by 3 you would complain that they didn't beat the spread and if they won by 7 you would complain that they didn't win by double digits.  if they won by 19 you would complain that.....oh you get the point, the two of you just complain away.

Couldn't bring the ball up against the press.  Plus, that means Markus is on the bench, so...

Good teams close those games out......period.

In the 1970 NBA Finals, the Lakers rallied to send Game 3 into OT, with the rally culminated by one of the most famous shots in basketball history: Jerry West's 60-foot heave.

The Knicks won the game in OT and eventually won the series.

I guarantee the Knicks aren't embarrassed about the way they won that game and that title. I also guarantee that only dopes feel those Knicks weren't good.

So this is where this board is going now.

We have gone from wanting to fire Wojo after losses to wanting to fire him after wins. I just hope the poor guy doesn't win us a national title; some Scoopers will be demanding he pay restitution to MU!

That was surprising to me. He picked up his dribble at least twice, and overall looked tentative against Seton Hall's pressure.

2 elite NBA teams in the finals.  On a scale of 1-10 how close is this SH team to elite.  I'll answer that for you.  1.

If we're judging by this year''s NCAA standards, they are probably a 7.

Nope.  If we had won in regulation by 3 I would have said that the team is growing up and has learned from the loss at SH.  I have more confidence that we are learning to close out a game.  Can't say that.
If we had won by 19 I would have said we put together our most convincing victory over a borderline NCAA team and it looks like we're building momentum.  Can't say that.

I think they showed poise today. They lost a big lead early and still went into the half up 5. They didn't have momentum for the early part of the second half and put themselves in a great position to win. They were in OT without two starters after losing a lead and gutted out a win.

It wasn't pretty, but I'd say the team showed signs of growing up. It's a flawed team without a ton of experience winning big games. They had plenty of chances to fold but stuck with it and got a big win.

I complained prior to a win.

So you are satisfied with blowing leads as long as they occasionally end in wins?

That's ridiculous. Teams blow leads all the time and still win.

And they also blow them all the time and lose, what's your point?

And better yet what does that have to do with us?

The point is that sometimes it's best to stop nitpicking and enjoy the victory.  Lessons learned and move on to Depaul.

Blowing a 10 pt lead with 3:17 left

Or a 7 pt lead with like 30 sec left isn't "nitpicking"

And it's disturbing that on a forum to "discuss sports" that it's completely frowned up to bring up the negative.

News flash....we ain't perfect

The problem I have is that I'm just not sure the lessons are being learned.  The last 2 minutes of this game looked a lot like the last 2 minutes of the last  SH game.  A lot of the same bad mistakes happening.  Glad we won, but this team really had to get a lot better at closing out games, and rebounding, especially on free throws.

The Lens

Forget the last 2 minutes. We lost the first 5 minutes of the second half AGAIN.  To me that's the issue.

It's fair to criticize.  Holding leads has been an issue all year.  Why?  IMO, relying on freshmen and sophs to lead because the seniors have abdicated that responsibility.  The team quits doing what got it a lead and milks the clock.   And didnt naturally match the increased intensity and physicality of Seton Hall.   One more thing to work on.
