Sometimes common sense doesn't tell the whole story. Howard was magnificent - he is almost every game now. Obviously the best player on the floor tonight. Sometimes, though, a different player is the difference between winning and losing.

Brandy - you're a smart guy. You can't honestly believe Matt made a bigger "difference between winning and losing" this game than Markus. That's wonderfully sentimental but also brain dead.

Eff the numbers, science, and logic. Heldt put this team over the edge for the win.

In his own "way" he schooled Luke on how to play tough tonight.  Let's hope Luke learned the lesson.  Luke is uber talented, but has Jamil Wilson disease.

So there.
Jajuans big shots down the stretch also put us over the edge. so did Krs fts. so did Markus  and his press brake and assits. but nope hand it to matt cuz hes never got the sotg. smh

Markusquette

Markus, pretty easily.  Heldt had his best game overall but comparatively it's not close.

SOTG is clearly Marcus.

but... Heldt was THE MAN!

If heldt wins the SOTG prize is a joke. 1 pt and 2 rebounds?? yes he played decent D but those rebounds bounced right to him.. If markus doesn't get it its a disgrace.

Relax my friend. Sure MH was the best player out there but that is almost expected at this point. Hedt showed he belongs on this team and contributed to a key win when essentially the game was written off by 95% of the fans. That deserves something, wouldn't you say? Matt did the impossible for him, stopping Delgado, wow. I say give it to him. You are entitled to yours.

Even the announcers said that Matt should be given the game ball.

Only worthwhile thing they said all night.
Have some patience, FFS.

I honeslty don't care lol. give it to matt. I just didn't see anything crazy out of him. couple easy boards and dlegado missed a few bunnies.

Loose Cannon

Heldt, I though we were done with Luke & Sam going out.  Stats are important but moments are sometime better.

Hope Harry enjoyed the game.

I probably didn't express what I was trying to say very well. Yes, Markus was the best on the floor, No, we wouldn't have won without him. Despite that, we probably lose if jjj doesn't hit the big '3'. And we almost surely lose if Matt doesn't give us 5 hard minutes in OT.

Sometimes a couple minutes that come at crunch time out-weigh the outstanding game by Markus because of its impact. And by saying that, I recognize Markus' impact and how great of a game he played for 40+ minutes.

brewcity77

1) Howard - Scored inside and out, distributed well (6 assists), didn't turn it over once. Solid all night long.
2) Cheatham - Until the final 2 minutes, he was absolutely, no question, SOTG. Any other choice would have been wrong. The kid had 14 points, 7 boards, 5 assists, and just 1 turnover while holding Carrington to 12 points. But in the final 2 minutes, he went 3/6 from the line including missing the last 2 while Carrington went off for 10 points. Great game, but came up short at the end.
3) Fischer - Heldt was good in OT, but Fischer got us there. 14/8 is a nice line, and frankly it's a joke that somehow Delgado wasn't whistled for a single first half foul on Luke.

Jay Bee

Obviously Howard. He's already been robbed once.

C'mon -- have a little respect for playing great defense on one of the best big men in the Big East when the game is on the line.

I didn't read past the first page so apologize if this is repetitive.

M2N was good for 40 minutes. Heldt, while he was very important in overtime, was good for 5 minutes.

Howard. Not even close.

JJ had some big shots, Heldt had a great overtime, Katin had a very good last 10 minutes outside of the dumb shot. Duane didn't play well but I love his emotion and intensity.

BM1090

I'm voting again.

Markus. And it should he the easiest choice of the year.

How about Haanif has been in the Ft. Lauderdale airport "hundreds of times".

Say what????? Did he have a job there?

Marcus92

Markus. No question.

In addition to his scoring, he was our most dependable option throughout the game bringing the ball up the court against Seton Hall's pressure. Played 42 minutes with 6 assists, 0 turnovers. And he showed fire when Marquette needed it most.

Great game by Matt. Maybe his best to date. He made some big plays during crunch time. But 13 minutes, 1 point and 2 rebounds doesn't qualify as a SotG performance, in my opinion.

He did, good all around game for him. And I don't really blame him for all the fouls, we may as well have been on the road tonight.

Surprised they didn't cut away to show him actually in the airport over break.

MU82

Our 17-year-old PG plays almost every minute of an OT game, doesn't commit a single turnover against a long, athletic team that applied a lot of pressure, scored 22 points and dished out 6 assists.

Look, I understand the emotional appeal of Heldt, and I'm thrilled with how he played. But even if I give the Heldtsters "we don't win in OT without him" ... do we get within 1,000 miles of OT without Markus?

Come on, folks. Why even bother having a stud award if you don't give it to a guy who did what Markus did tonight?

Frankly, it's not even close.

I agree it's Markus, but Cheatham was really close until the end. Especially when you consider holding Carrington to 12 points for 38 minutes (after that...yeah).

GoldenWarrior11

Heldt - without question.  Howard put up the numbers, but Heldt physically carried us with his toughness in OT.  Without Heldt - especially without Fisher - we lose in the extra period.

Besides, let's see how many different teammates we can get (that are rightfully earned) the SOTG this year.

What's the Scoop's all-time record for number of different players from one team earning SOTG honors?

I meant close for Heldt. Haani is my easy second choice. Still not difficult for me to go with Howard over both, though.
