1. Katin made some shots.
2.  After shaky starts, the freshmen found their legs and showed they belong.  First conference road game.
3.  The defense looks better.  Not great yet, but improved.
4. The zone change up.
5.  Two games and MU is competing g on the boards.
6.  Came back from a sizeable second half deficit on the road.
7.  39 solid minutes.

Look, if I had told you MU was going to have a chance to win in the last minute on the road against Seton Hall, would you have taken it going in?  Need to learn to finish.  Still lots of good stuff.

It wasn't a solid 39 minutes. MU was up 10 points in the 1st half and trailed by 1 at half. Fell behind by as many as 8 points with 10 minutes to play.

So, respectfully, what was it?

Always sucks to lose.  I see the tides turning.  Seton Hall will be very worried about playing in the BC.

MU will be favored at the BC vs. the Hall. Don't think they were last year.

Games have ebbs and flows, particularly on the road.  MU got the lead because of KR's shooting.  SH came back at home and surged ahead.  They are a good team.  The thing to build on is that MU came back and forged a lead after being down in the second half

The outcome was disaapointing, but last year we couldenot compete with Seton Hall so I see a lot of improvement over last year. This team would be in really good shape for a bid now, if they had not given away the Pitt and Seton Hall games.

Yup. That's the problem. We're playing better, but unfortunately those are 2 key losses that should've been wins.

tower912

That will hurt.

Oh, I forgot, we get Markus and Sam for 3.5 more years.

Came back to the board because I realized I've got to get on top of this and view it positively.  I had enjoyed watching the whole game because we were playing like a team that belonged.  It just hat when Marcus converted that 4 point play I suddenly said "hey we are going to win this".  This team is getting better.  They are decent enough on D and rebounding (except missed free throws).  They are fun to watch.  If they can provide that day in and day out that has to be enough for this year.  Next time we're in this situation I'd be really tempted to keep it in Markus's hands and live and die with him.
Lets play Nova tough and show we belong again.

Like everybody else here, I wish we had won and I was disappointed with the way we lost.

That being said ...

I come away from this game - and this 2-game start to our season - very encouraged about our Warriors. They have played super hard and mostly have played well. The improvement is obvious to anybody except those who either aren't watching or are automatically negative about everything. And when I talk about improvement, I'm talking about Wojo, too. I thought he coached a great game.

I'm psyched for Nova, and especially for the home games against Seton Hall and DePaul after that. I firmly believe we will be 3-2 at the worst.

I mostly agree with this. We hung tough. We fought. We're on the right track.

Just wish we didnt have to wait 6 days and that our next game was anyone but Nova. Big opportunity, but likely a loss. Then SHU at home which I think we will win but lots of pressure on that game

BM1090

Super disappointing but now that I'm sober ...this team is so much better than last year. Not close. Today just sucks because we had it in the bag.

Depaul, SJU, Providence. Sweep them. That's 7. Beat SHU at home next week. 8. Win @ Georgetown. 9. Then beat Butler, Xavier or Creighton at home. That's 10 and likely a NCAA bid. And I think we'll do it. More confident that we're a good team after today even though they choked

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Didn't get to watch the game, was flying home from the future in laws. I notice Carrington went 4-13 from the floor and 0-4 from deep. Who was guarding him? Was it our defense or was he just off? Honestly didn't think we would be able to stop him.

The most improved is Jim McAllvaine on radio, too bad he will be leaving.
Better to hear his inside the ropes commentary than to watch the game.
He talked about the great defense against Carrington, I  think it was  Cheatham.

It was Cheatham.  That is why looking at the boxscore and saying he should sit is a misguided notion.

The 8 point comeback on the road would not have happened last year.

Is this a part of the Cheatham slump?  It seems like every game Haanif draws the opponents best player and has to spend 40 more notes chasing that guy around.  So, he has less energy to expend on the offensive end, which could explain the meh athleticism and poor jump shooting.

No positives at the endgame, this team still struggles, slowly getting better on the defensive end.
Another year we're soft in the middle.

Next year will not be much better as John and Eke are very young.  Still has time to recruit somebody.

Lets see how running into a buzz saw in Newark changes the team.  Some people learn quickly, some people never learn.

Looking ahead, I agree that the 17-18 Warriors could really use a talented and experienced transfer in the middle to give them the best chance at winning.  If that were to happen, at least one of Heldt, John, or Eke will not be happy with playing time I suspect.  In that case, would love to see Eke redshirt.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Speaking of which , I finally updated the scholarship table to update the recent transfers, and even Sacar's redshirt status.  Yes I know, a bit slow.

We should see lots of new players next year.  Unless my math is wrong, still 3 more scholarships available for next year.  Probably 2 of which would be focused on JUCO's or transfers to even classes out a bit.

Looking back at the '14-'15 roster...uuuufffff, how did we manage to win 13 games?

Marcus92

I was on the road yesterday and could only catch the last 7 minutes of the game on the radio. Homer and Mac sounded as shocked by what happened at the end as anybody here.

In the end, this was one of five basically 50-50 games on our schedule — along with home against Butler (2/7), at Georgetown (2/11), home against Xavier (2/18) and home against Creighton (3/4). Very even match-ups, as played out last night.

I didn't expect us to win all 5, or even 4. If we get 3 of them, we should be in good shape for 10 conference wins. But Nova is our next big test. There's no pressure for us — the Wildcats are favored big. Let's see how we do.
